LookieNoNookie -> New camera (1/28/2014 4:13:28 PM)

I got a new camera today. I got tired of pushing the "on" button 17 times to get the thing to turn on, only to find that when I wanted to turn it off, I ended up taking 16 photos....anyway, I wanted a Nikon because that's what I had....thinking that the 5 batteries I'd (recently) purchased would slip right in.

THAT didn't happen!

So (of course) I have to buy all fucking new batteries.

But, for half the price of my old one, I have one that now does 4 times the megapixels (I can see someone's actual DNA if I get within 7 inches of their face), I can take video for 12 hours with a 64 gb chip (which costs 50 bucks....my first hard drive computer had a 20 MEGABYTE hard drive, a green screen, and cost 6 grand....and I remember thinking (then)..."we're in the 27th century now...I can now travel through time...walk through walls")...I haven't read the entire owners manual yet but...I think it does holograms with laser accurate representations....they told me they'd give me a 10% discount because "new camera's are coming in next week" so I took the deal (probably missed out on the whole 3D modeling device that comes with the new camera's that actually CREATES my own personal Angelina Jolie with gel skin like feel).

I think I heard her say as I was leaving (with my spectacular deal) that these new camera's will plant your crops for you, harvest them, shuck the corn AND make you a smoothie (while you shower and imagine yourself on a beach in Havana).

As I was leaving, a photo realistic impression of Pamela Anderson actually walked me to my car and opened my car door and asked me if my seat was warm enough for my driving pleasure....

It's brand new gawdamned world.

Jeeeeeebus!!!!

Paul Simon probably couldn't even have imagined the new Nikons when he wrote Kodachrome.

Sadly, it was probably outdated before you got out the door with it, but the good news is that next week you can list it on Craigslist as an antique.

I bought a new Canon SX160IS last November, and I'll probably never learn or use half of what the camera is capable of.

Does anyone know (some of you film geeks) if the new camera's can do what Kodachrome did? I learned some years ago when I heard that "Kodachrome" was being eliminated that....Kodachrome was indeed something quite special...brought out colors...did shit that other film didn't....one company (Midwest) was the last remaining company who did Kodachrome film and even they couldn't stay alive based on the volume left.

Do the new camera's do all that stuff?

Do you take pictures on the big boy digital's (that store 27 kazillion mb's) and then adjust as needed because (that) file houses every possible pixel you need?

I love images...love the whole art of it....don't know enough to actually hold a conversation about same....anyone?

Dumb question (maybe): Could Ansel Adams do what he did with the (digital) camera's they have today?

I have a canon 7D that shoots in RAW which is what I think you are talking about. It mean that you can do so much more in editing, and because the file is so huge it can be blow up to quite a size too. Mine has 18mega pixels, but is a 1:6crop. It works better for me than a full frame because I'm hand hold shooting wildlife. A 400 prime lens gives me a near 600 equivalent reach, but still allows me to crop in very close for small birds.

a friend of my son has a bridge camera, and doing a degree in photography. recently we had a fabulous sunset. he had to edit his pic to get the colour, whereas mine was wonderful straight off the camera. I'm a complete amateur taking pics to paint, but doing well according to a couple of guys on a site I'm a member of.
