MrRodgers -> Talk about immoral...on the dole too. (1/28/2014 8:55:16 PM)

Here's a microcosm of an immoral spendthrift with a sense of entitlement. How can one go through 34 million pounds in 12 years ? Living like a king I guess. Oh wait ! I guess it ain't easy hey. Talk about welfare dependency.

What's truly amazing is that in western capitalist culture, the easiest way to make money...is with money. Instead it was party hardy on taxpayers backs. What greed. Am I actually reading that a tax increase is supported to make it up ? What fools. Must be too sleazy to fail.

Here

Just more evidence and a glaring example of the blatant immorality of the truly idle rich. An excellent example of the coming failure of western society as we know it today.

I don't really consider the Queen & royal family the idle rich.. the Princes do work or have worked in the military, and in some fairly dangerous situations.. they & the Queen maintain royal duties just as the Prez of the US does in entertaining dignitaries, supporting charities, doing PR stuff required of them.. I see someone like Paris Hilton as the idle rich.. she gets paid huge gobs of money just to show up at a party or function.. [8|]

I don't know how much money the Queen had or where it went but I suspect those palaces she lives in & the staff cost a ton of money and its not enough.. if the Queen and royals are not making enough to stay even, yah, the pot will eventually run dry.. perhaps if they could sell a sex tape that might help.. [:-]

That's the ticket, a new reality show...'A day in the life of the queen.' It just might flop though. Maybe not if the ducknecks can draw anything like 12 million viewers.

I think a bigger harbinger of the decline of Western Civilization as we know it, is that Paris Hilton is one of the idol rich.

Maybe but she has no real social gravitas...famous only because she's famous and only in name. However, queenie does. She's a sorry symbol of modern aristocracy. (royalty)

At last some good news!

Also this should be a unifying issue for American Conservatives and Liberals.

To be American IS to hate the monarchy right?

I mean fuck, I'm somewhere to the left of Gore Vidal and sometimes I think the last thing America really did right was back in the 18th century when we told the goddamn king he could cram it all right up his pompous ass.

Jeeze man,the contempt is oozing out....[:D]

If the British didn`t want a symbol of modern aristocracy, sorry or otherwise, they wouldn`t vote for it. Even if it`s symbolic and just about pomp, they are free to do what they want.

Seems to me though that someone along the way screwed the finances and or investments. Maybe its time for a hard look and letting the National Trust take everything and charge to see it.

I am still laughing at the idea of the Queen being on the dole. I am guessing she puts in a longer working week aged 87 than the Op does.

Edit to add link.

try actually reading reality. what the royal family are "paid" is a fraction of what they contribute.

Not necessarily. I don't hate the monarchy. I don't love the monarchy but I don't hate it. Of course, it helps that I don't have to pay taxes to support them.

Warts and all,it`s a living piece of antiquity and history. A bit of a fantasy trip to the days of yore and a history lesson all in one.

I loved touring Windsor Castle, Bath and older parts of London. We stayed in Slough to save money.

Yes, the Brits can vote as they please and the House of Commons can frame a law but then it has to get through the (priveleged) House of Lords . Can you honestly see them voting to change the status quo on anything that will affect their way of life and the silver spoon they carry shoved up their asses ?

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Talk about immoral...on the dole too. (1/29/2014 7:38:22 PM)

Owner..............next time you go, try staying out in the Chalfonts. They are beaut old villages the other side of Gerrards cross in Bucks. One of them has the most haunted pub in England. Another is haunted by Bloody Judge Jeffreys.

Yeah . . . and like I said, I've nothing against that. If I had to pay for it maybe I would but I don't, so . . . meh.

Not so......... The Lords can only advise on changes to legislation put to them. Parliament can force legislation through once the Lords have rejected three amended papers.

tweakabelle -> RE: Talk about immoral...on the dole too. (1/30/2014 7:17:11 PM)

I found it odd that the OP made no mention of the vast assets controlled by the Queen, who is regularly included in the lists of the world's richest women.

I believe that these include extensive land holdings, art antiquities jewels shareholdings and other investments. I don't know what happens to the revenue generated from these assets. This information would clearly help generate a more informed discussion of this issue.

I can't help wondering if this is another case of privatise the profits and socialise the losses .......

servantforuse -> RE: Talk about immoral...on the dole too. (1/30/2014 7:50:23 PM)

In US dollars, how much goes to support the royal family per year ?

Politesub53 -> RE: Talk about immoral...on the dole too. (1/31/2014 3:02:16 AM)

The landholdings are not all owned by the Royal family. Most of these are owned by the Crown Estate and have been since 1760 when George 111 cut a deal with Parliament. So the Crown Estate is owned by the government and not the Queen.

To answer Servants question ;

quote:

The grant for 2013/14, when the new formula effectively begins, has been set at just over £36 million.

The Crown Estate's 2011/12 accounts revealed profits of £240.2 million and the final figure for the grant was rounded up to £36.1 million.

As anyone can see, this figure sees the government make a huge return compared to costs incurred. This doesnt include revenue brought by tourists and spent indirectly in the UK (Travel, hotels, expenses etc) nor indeed revenue from tourists visiting other UK attractions.
