So here I am sitting around looking at my materials box, and I'm thinking about making a "Hogtie Harness." Which is a single ring with a four (maybe five if i want to hook her collar in) loops with clips on each one, for quickly hooking cuffs into a hogtie like position. But I can't decide should I use leather for loops (for which I will need to buy more rivets since I am out) or should I use webbing (like is found on many backpacks, straps, dog leashes) which then has to be sewn and takes up alot of time anyway. Further if I do use webbing I don't know if i should use Nylon or Cotton. Which brings me to my point. When making your own toys, especially cuffs, harnesses, anything with straps. Do you use webbing (wether something natural like cotton of something man made) or do you leather OR do you use something that I haven't even thought of? Why do you use it? If you use different stuff for different projects what sort of strapping to you use for what sorts of projects?

Personally, anything that touches or comes close to skin I prefer leather to webbing. Leather is much smoother than any webbing I have seen. As to what type pf ewabing to use, I prefer nylon as it is easier to work with and lasts longer. It doesnt rot and abrade like cotton. For the hogtie harness I would suggest nylon webbing as you can then use duckbill tension locks to make it easilly adjustable. Just how hight do you want the hogtie to pull? Sewing can be kept to a minimim using slip lock adjusters. Then use a duckbill tension lock in the middle of the strap. That way you can tighten the hogtie by just pilling on the webbing.. Movak

i use leather and nylon as well as steel and wood when making restraints for various ocassions....all of which is time consuming,,,,if you intend to use it in public go with either leather or steel(stainless)or both...

finally went with webbing and tension locks so it is easy to adjust. Now if i can just decide where I should make or buy one of those slings for providing leg support from around the shoulders. I saw one the other day with cuffs and clips instead of stirups and I can't decide which would be more comfortable.

I work in a composites lab at a University. I am really wanting to sneak out some of the new materials we have. the fiberglass honey comb stuff we have would make for an awesome flat board to tie a "victim" down to.

Neither. www.badbearworx.com sells them made of bright (washable!) nylon within a webbing structure. They come with matching "slut stirrups" and the whole assembly is lightweight, attractive, convenient, and gives very nearly 360-degree access to the bottom's person. Even the double layer of nylon fabric (the whole thing is not only double sided but also its own large storage container!) is very nearly unnoticeable to the touch for the person in the sling. One, or maybe two, of them are on my short list of acquisitions. Way too nummy! Tried one out at KinkFest 2008.

A simple ring and double clasp dog clips from the local hardware strore works well. Standard pad locks add to much bend in the back for long term comfort, use longer ones with a 2-3 inch lock loop, leather cuffs are better then webbing or metal if you use this system

I use two layers of 5 oz latigo leather and glue it back to back with latex glue. I round the edges with an edger, and then stitch it with poly thread and my leather sewing machine. then I use a teflon edge smoother to seal the edges nice and smooth. I rub a beeswax emulsion like picard's into it after-I heat the stuff up with a heat gun first. It ends up soft,extremely strong-and will not chafe too badly. I avoid nylon on skin, it will slice someone struggling in it. Cheaper is not always better.

Pretty much,. I see it as "the cheapskate solution" I prefer a little more elegance in my toys.

Leather is definitely the way to go. It looks better, is strong, safe, and comfortable. A second option might be to use the thick latex rubber stapping that is becoming more and more available - with most of the benefits of leather, but far surpassing leather when it comes to clean up.

Although, they weren't talking about fisting slings, I don't think, I second the vote for Spencer's www.badbearworx.com slings... His slings fucking rock. I sold my leather sling after getting one of his. They travel everywhere in so much less space than my leather one and his slings even hold the chains, rope, and hardware I use to hang the slings. Machine washable and in so many vibrant colors they're gorgeous and will even hold my crazy fat ass.

Personally for a hog tie I would use hemp rope, but of the two materials you list it would depend on what I am doing. I love the smell of leather and it has such a nice feel when it is worn in. However I cobmine a lot f thngs and wax or body fluids can be a bitch with leather. In suspension up-rigs we have been using webbing and it works great. It is stronger than most leather and a lot easier to clean, plus is is cheap for good quality. If you want to put aload on it the Kn rating is way up there if you use climbing grade stuuff. Check out REI.

I myself was a little bit of a leather and hemp purist but have some across some wonderful equipment made with webbing, and appreciate some of the benefits such as color, functionality, strength and clean up that it offers.

I just like the tactile part of a good leather sling. I don;t play with so many people that i really worry about it getting full of nasty bugs-but I do use nice thick sealed latigo.

one thing webbing is good for is making leather stronger. on anything that will involve suspension or high stress I use webbing in between 2 layers of leather all stitched together.
