The Republicans have finally come up with an alternative to the ACA. As I see it from this article, the idea is to increase the health costs of the American people and increase the profits (by lowering taxes) for insurance companies, technology providers, and health care institutions while allowing insurance companies an out not to cover individuals with preexisting conditions.

There are many other problematic things the Republican plan does, like eliminate the health law’s taxes on health insurance, drug and device companies; allow insurance companies to sell plans that don’t cover maternity, mental health or other types of care; and allow insurance companies to impose annual limits on benefits.

How many of you think that Health Care Industry and Insurance lobbyists actually wrote up the proposal? It kind of looks that way....

The most 'problematic thing' about it of course is that it is the REPUBLICAN plan. What did you expect, after all?

From the synopsis of their plan:

  • Transition to capped allotment to provide states with predictable funding and flexibility; and

And there's your Republican death squads.

    yay cronies.
their best bet would be to announce plans for single payer.

Wasn't the major point behind obamacare that people with pre-existing conditions couldn't be turned down? Where's the alternative for the people? Having a hard time even remotely seeing it.

    Its more than that:

    (1) It makes the cost of health care more expensive, especially for those receiving insurance through their employers.

    (2) It makes it easier for insurance companies to charge more or cancel policies.

    (3) It increases the profits of the businesses associated with healthcare.

You simply cannot talk about reducing the federal budget deficit without addressing the spiraling costs of US healthcare. This plan bets on individuals shopping around for better, more affordable healthcare instead of using a collective method to reduce costs.

I dont know, I think most would like the Ebenezer Scrooge approach to the problems with the poor and people who cant afford health insurance. That system would deal with the vets waiting for procedures to be approved as necessary, waiting to get approved for disability, and with no medicare or medicaid the old and poor will soon be a thing of the past.

And look at how much the government will save in the process.

    Fiscal Responsibility at its finest!

AP indicates fewer people on the job according to the CBO because of Obamacare

Personally, I think they should repeal it. If the point is to get the pre-existing condition covered then just pass that. If the point is to force those that don't have insurance for whatever reason to get insurance, then just make that the law. Each can probably be done in a couple sentences.

From what I've read about this Republican alternative, it sounds like it's basically the same as the ACA, only it provides smaller subsidies, doesn't protect people with pre-existing conditions, and is paid for by cutting the tax break that employers get for providing health care to their employees - which would be a tax hike for businesses and almost certainly cause people to lose their insurance.
