DesFIP -> Mountain Lion (2/1/2014 6:04:31 PM)

25 years ago I saw this strange animal in the yard. Spent two days at the library looking at books that showed mammals of North America. Finally I called the Preserve up the mountain from me and asked them if this possibly was true.

Was told then that there were over 25 sightings a year but the DEC refused to accept that the mountain lions were here since nobody had hit one with a car to prove it.

This past weekend a hiker got a picture of one eating a blacksnake with their Smart Phone.

The DEC has finally capitulated.

Oh, and the way I described it to the head of the Preserve was that it was something you don't want to meet in a dark alley. Massive head and paws and barrel chested, not a wasp waist like a coyote.

We have wondering males here in Missouri as well... the DCC says they have a huge range and have migrated from the western states looking for mates. They have many male sightings but no females as of yet.

Magnificent creatures. They were the mascot for my high school's football team (the Cougars).
