A coworker gave me a pound of Ghiradelli peppermint bark for Christmas. I made it last until last week by giving it to my man to hold on to. He left it in his trunk and doled it out a piece at a time. Otherwise, it would have been gone in a week, lol.

I really enjoy when we split a small (1.5 oz) bag of M&Ms, which he feeds to me.

Moderation!

He bowls. At one alley, they have those little candy machines for kids. Put a quarter in and get 7 Peanut M & Ms. We don't feel deprived but it's a definite portion control. And that's important because candy bars say they're 2 1/2 portions, but who splits them up like that?

Interesting link on how we are taught to see ourselves.

I was shocked to see that plus size models are now size 6.

Congratulations on your 57 lbs! That is a great accomplishment!

I agree the food reward thing is pure sabotage. I'll definitely treat myself sometimes, but I try to balance food treats with other types of treats: new musical instrument, new kinky toy, a lengthy acupuncture/massage session, a day curling up by the fire in my jammies where no thought of exercise needs to enter my mind, a relaxed phone call catching up with folks I love and miss.

I'm glad you mentioned a few "rewards" that don't cost any money. That's one of my problems....food might be a bad reward, but a $1.00 candy bar is a lot easier on the budget than a $20 piece of clothing.

I've been thinking about this.
I just...both...hate how I look and hate my very unhealthy relationship with food/eating from years of worrying about how I look, I resent eating so much sometimes I just wish I didn't have to.
It causes lots of backsliding, cause when I do one thing well...like if the weight loss is going well...that means how I feel about food is likely going miserably. Its a hard balancing act to master, and I can only assume its going to take me half a lifetime to feel ok about both my body, and my feelings towards what I put in it.

Kirata asked some really relevant questions though. So I think if you start to examine those within yourself you might get somewhere.

(Emphasis added to above quote)

I think what a lot of people in our society don't understand is that for a lot of people, the relationship they have with food is very similar to an addiction. but it can't be treated like one. They don't understand that with things like alcohol and drug addiction, the addict is encouraged and expected to eliminate those substances and habits from their lives completely, but you can't do that with food, and people don't realize this. Trying to swap out bad eating habits for good ones is like telling a drug addict that they MUST have ONE and ONLY ONE snort of cocaine every day. As difficult as it is, it is still a hell of a lot easier to train the addict to say "no" 100% of the time than it is to telll them...."Well you really need to cut down, but you can't live without it...."

This is why a lot of people find it easier to just starve themselves when they want to lose weight. Just like with drugs and alcohol, it's a lot easier for some people (mentally anyway) to never put a crumb of food in their mouth than it is to have to pick and choose and "control" themselves. As shiftyw says above...it is a "balancing act"

I think this is what really irks me the most about how our culture sees and treats overweight and obese people. For some reason, there is a lot more sympathy and patience with drug addicts and alcoholics than there is with overweight people.

I don't know if any of you watch "The Biggest Loser"...I don't, but I just caught this on Yahoo...

This woman was told she needed to lose weight....so she lost weight....but now they're saying she's too skinny.

Missokyst -> RE: I saw myself (2/6/2014 12:49:58 PM)

She does look skinny and a bit gaunt, however I don't think people are taking into account that she will have that look immediately upon drastic weight loss. Skin does not snap back easily if at all. As far as weight loss goes her original size looked more like fat over muscle rather than flab over fat. There is definitely a difference in the way people carry weight. I have too much flab over the tummy but my ass is definitely more fat over muscle.
I hope she stays close to her current size and does not revert back from there.. the snap back is wicked! Been there, done that. This time I will ease up the pace so there is less shock.

NuevaVida -> RE: I saw myself (2/6/2014 8:03:29 PM)

She looked fantastic on the show before the finale, and when she did the triathlon. Perfect muscle toning. Very fit. And then...where did all that muscle go from all those work outs? It was shocking to see such a difference. From athlete to...nothing that resembled athletic. Too huge a difference in a very short time.

Some people are naturally thin. Some people get thin in a healthy manner. She went from toned and muscular to no visible toning at all. It looked like she stopped working out and just starved herself. She didn't look 24, she looked in her 40s. Good or bad, it was a shocking difference.
