Granted, I'm not entirely impartial, but I LOVE this!

And below the search box, there's an apt quote from the Olympic Charter:

"The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play." –Olympic Charter

You go, Google!

Doesn't mean there isn't a sly reference to gay rights as a response to the anti-gay sentiments being espoused by Russia. In fact, I hope it is.

I kept seeing this in the corner of Google page searches and it was too small to see the athletes so I thought there was some Gay Pride holiday or something like that today.

With this said, I actually think the best doodle was the Les Paul one.

That one was awesome, I agree.

I'm a little disappointed that the rainbow doodle is gone already. I was hoping they'd keep it throughout the Games.

Since Stonewall, Gay folks have worked hard to take the 'we' out of bigotry. Make it a personal rather than a group effort.

When 'everyone' is doing it, not doing it is an act of courage. Doing it, by contrast, is not a decision, it's the default. And of course the virulent types blend right in. Get to pretend they are perfectly normal moral and upright churchgoing pillars of the community. Perhaps even protectors of a community that doesn't include certain undesirable kinds or colors of people, but which does include violent bigots.

Over the past 45 years, most of us have been asked at some time to reevaluate. Most of us have. This leaves the virulent types clearly visible, without the cover of numbers or tradition and subject to direct personal sanction.

This difficult and very slow process hasn't been popular with some and hasn't yet happened everywhere.
