Anyone else watching the Olympic opening ceremonies? I like how they show the outline of each country under the walkway. Uniforms are workmanlike. Sorry to hear the Germans disavowed their rainbows, but then the outfits were a bit ugly to be an LGBT emblem. Of course, no Olympic opening can ever top the queen's parachuting in with James Bond.

Austria seems to be having a bit of an issue.

Russia did an outstanding job of setting up for this. Beautiful place, lights and yes, lighting up the countries around the stage as they come out.

So if I tweeted here's what my followers would read:

-- What's up with the headdresses on the women carrying the country names? Is there an andiron left in the whole city?

-- Seriously, were those clunky, cheesy sweaters the best uniforms the US could come up with? They look like the seasoal sweaters that sprout in classrooms across American ever Yuletide.

-- Putin looks like he's half asleep.

The police choir seemed a little gay, considering Russia`s closet problem...

The dog killing is extremely depressing.....

And I heard they have a new Olympic event.....finding a working toilet....

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on 'em. Overall they have been enjoyable but I can't say I have been as wowed as in Olympics past . . . except for that little girl flying so high. Child endangerment issues aside, that is one gusty kid.

It is possible that my opinion toward this particular Olympics' opening is a little soured by the fact that I think Putin is a dick. But I still love the Olympics and am looking forward to the competition.

(Okay, the twirling women I'm looking at right now are pretty cool.)

I laughed out loud when one of the NBC chatterers said the history pageant was "highly idealized."

Ya think?

Completely agree. I can't really watch any of it without thinking about it.

But I do enjoy Olympic opening ceremonies...just impossible to respect the venue.

The police choir was....ummm...interesting. I mean.....do you think those guys are going to "get lucky"? Is is really worth it for them to stay up all night?

Not to be a debby-downer but I saw a piece about a small village near a new quarry who`ve been without water for three years since the quary was dug.

They use the crushed stone for the Olympic site development.

As well, this little village gets like 50-100 HUGE tri-axle dump truck loads hauled down there one lane main street every day from that quarry.

The whole town has been living by hauling their water home from a single tanker the government has supplied...... for three years.

I too love the games and try to keep politics out but the Russians creep me out and always have.

Now I did not read anything in that respect, but I disliked them big time....they looked like bonbons sweets....one of the countries before germany had a black one (i think woollen) with some decent colours in it....those ones I liked...

And I watched it but wasnt as fascinated about it as the one from the UK....but then...the one from the UK surprised me big time so its hard when it is compared with previously done ones....

Can't watch the whole thing...Mom loved the fact that we did get the gold in slopestyle, but we got bored with the biathlon and the Dutch getting the medals in skating. I am ready for women's alpine.
