ORIGINAL: DesideriScuri So, for at least 25 years, the term "colors" has referred to gang colors and insignia, as well as it's more traditional meanings. No, I'm sure it's not a new term. The real question is, though, how many people know about its use re biker gangs? Definitely not new... it's been around since long before I was born. Although predominantly used to denote biker gang "colours" in recent years, AFAIK, the term was used well before the 18th century and refered to 'nautical' colours. For centuries, the term "colours" has always had connotations to do with alliegence; either country or clan/group/gang whether biker related or otherwise (eg; street gangs of the 70's). In recent(~ish) decades, your group's "colours" were more popular with the advent of the Scout movement in 1908 which is when a popular non-nautical theme adopted the terminology. So... how the fuck could this person ever confuse "colors" with "coloreds" I really don't know. Perhaps he should have gone to SpecSavers???
