Kirasen -> Internet (2/9/2014 11:27:56 PM)

I see people wondering why people lie and scam on the internet... they used the right word for it but never quite hit the mark. The internet is a fabricated world. Why should someone be real in a world that is fake? Do you remember puppet shows? The internet is like that, people use avatars as their painted faces. Some choose to try to be 'real' some choose to act to a way that gives them the ability to be free, but some lose I wont go into that. Life is a game, and the internet is like a 'minigame'. Do you see now?

Why not lie? why be real.... in this fabricated world? This is a real question I ask you.

What is real? What is beautiful? What is sweet? What is the point of existence? --- All of these can be asked to different people all of these will get different answers. Some people will think similarly, some won't. That's why I want this to be discussed, people give different responses because people are different.

I want to know what real means to you also.... Real and reality.... Answer me that.

"Fabricated" has negative judgmental implications, "Constructed" has fewer and leads to more productive thinking.
Language is similarly 'constructed', usually over longer time periods, but with the same deliberate or unintended departure from faithful modeling of 'reality'. (Which sadly seems beyond human capability, if the last dozen or so millenia typical.) But some value judgements have to be made as the 'floor' upon which any response or perception has to be based. Modern family life is as 'artificial' in many ways as net forums or the virtual worlds of constructed avatars. We see what we have been taught to see or have learned from others words or perceptions and subsequent reactions. Doing this architecture of persona consciously in real time doesn't make it evil or unethical. Only intent does that.

It would seem, rather, that your idea of "internet" is rather different to mine. My "internet" is a network of connected computers.

No, not really. I'm sort of getting "babble babble babble" at this point.

Since I have no clue what you mean by "fabricated world", I'm at a loss as to how I might answer the question.

The internet is real, the interactions that people participate in are real.

People lie and scam because of the uninhibiting effects that a sense of anonymity provide.

Real means, that the time I've wasted responding to your post is time I will really never get back.

And I only have myself to blame for being goaded by gibberish.

What is your take on what a lie is?

epiphiny43 -> RE: Internet (2/10/2014 12:10:30 AM)

Does, "What is the meaning of life?" come next? Someone missed Philosophy 101.

What computer tried to translate what language to produce the above tag line? Please phrase in Standard English with conventional punctuation?

Never mind, I just remembered there is Strawberry Haagen Dazs in the refrigerator.

I am going to answer this based upon both sides of this site (CollarMe and CollarChat).

CollarMe:

Ostensibly, people here wish to meet partners with whom they can have physically or emotionally intimate relationships.

I can only guess that if people are only interested in the physically intimate type, being "real" might not be all that important. Perhaps living out some (personally) taboo fantasies might be better off if one person believes the "persona" that another person is putting out there.

I am not all that sure about this but, I guess it's a consideration.

For people that are on this side to find an emotionally intimate relationship; why wouldn't they "be real"?

If I am hoping to find a partner; one that opens up to me and allows me to see who they really are, I have to offer the same in return.

If I pretend to be someone I am not, I have only myself to blame when she finds out the truth and my truth is not what she was looking for.

Do I think there's a bunch of bullshit artists, here? Yes but, that's 85%-95% of the world-at-large, anyway.

CollarChat:

This is a place where people discuss ideas, give opinions and advice, and mesh in a common interest.

Why shouldn't people "be real", here? It's almost impossible to support a position that you really don't believe. What then, is the point in trying to put things out there that you can't possibly explain or defend?

Do I think there's a bunch of bullshit artists, here? Yes but, that's 85%-95% of the world-at-large, anyway.

Good luck,

Michael

Relevance = zero

crazyml -> RE: Internet (2/10/2014 12:26:12 AM)

Strawberry?

But epiphiny, does it really exist, or is it just a fabrication.

What does "real strawberry haagen dazs" actually mean?

Enquiring minds have to fucking know!

Let me guess, back in school, oh so very long long ago when you went to high school and below, you were a bully?

crazyml -> RE: Internet (2/10/2014 12:44:36 AM)

I am truly sorry if you feel bullied. You were meant to feel a little mocked. But, you know - I say dickish things on internet sites too, and regularly deserve a mocking.

Oddly enough, Plato used a similar concept for his description of reality itself, and how it was filtered, with his Allegory of the Cave. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_Cave

Why did you take that so seriously if this is all a fabrication? Are you role playing?

Just don't kill the mocking bird, ML.
