They are reality shows with big ratings, and each show they spend a whole hour to find or prove nothing. Although I am a sucker to watch them, I like the locations they visit, I have been to some of them. You can learn a bit about history from the shows. They did find a 500 year old coin on The Oak Island show, it could have been planted for reality show sake. Does anyone else enjoy watching these shows ?

First I believe in the possibility of a creature like big foot running around. I find the shows dealing with the search for the creature a bit stupid to put it mildly, since I tend to concur with some of the Native American legends and explanations concerning the creature.

America Unearthed has a "scientist" who's theories have been debunked so often that while he did get his degrees legitimately, he has crossed from academic research to "legend exploitation" to sell books.

The oak island series seems to be actually trying to achieve something, considering the finale last evening. Having followed the ongoing projects on the island for a number of years, there is something there, but whoever put it there did not want it found. The swamp has a seemingly artificial shape, one of the coves is clearly man made, and the fact that putting dye in the money pit shows up in the man made cove when the tide goes out.

America Unearthed is loony.

Never seen Oak Island.

Finding bigfoot is sadly exploitation. While I'd love it if someone found a population of great apes living in North America it is incredibly unlikely. Apes require a fairly high calorie diet to feed their big brains and the coniferous forests that are the supposed habitats of Bigfoot just don't provide that sort of diet for an animal that big. They'd have to compete with bears and the other bigger mammals that eat fruit and that would get noticed. And at this point someone would have found a corpse or gotten more than some crappy 8mm film of one (BTW apes are almost never solitary animals so why are all the sightings of individuals?).

I haven't purposefully watched a "reality" show since COPS.

I don't think they're truly reality. I have been lamenting the programming on History, NatGeo, and A&E for years.

The network was advertising the 10th (?) year anniversary of Ghosthunters. So, ten years of finding nothing but screaming at your own shadow - and people watch it! My sweetie likes to watch Ghosthunters - which makes me re-evaluate my opinion of him.
In ten years of looking, they should have been able to find SOMETHING!

The real suckers are the ones that watch these type of shows week after week after week...

kiwisub...............This is slightly off-topic but If your man wants to see ghosts, he should maybe take you for a trip to U.K. *smile*.
I used to live in a village about 35 miles due west of London and three of the pubs I used to drink in were haunted. One was reputed to be the most haunted pub in England. That was The White Hart in Chalfont St Giles, Bucks. A couple of the others were The White Hart in Chalfont St Peters, The Greyhound in Chalfont St Peters and I nearly forgot The George in Chalfont St Peters ( I am not sure if that is still open though).
If you don't see, hear or feel any ghosts, you will have a great vacation and meet some good people and see some beautiful scenery but good luck with the ghost hunting anyway.

I like watching them for the idiocy effect. They are so stupid that you have to watch them. I like to sit and watch them and think how stupid they are and how can anyone possibly be that stupid. If these people were for real they would be locked up in a looney bin.

ETA: there was a show on National Geographic a few months ago to look further into Big Foot claims. Those that claimed to have pieces of hair or bone or such turned out to be bears. During the research they even discovered a hybrid polar and black bear roaming warmer climates which is what a lot of people were seeing in that area.

I had really high hopes for Oak Island, since I'd heard and read about it for years, and thought with modern equipment and technology and maybe a network bankroll something would actually happen. What a fizzle. That was the finale??? One coin???

Agree with Ghosthunters. I used to watch it regularly, but they don't find much to write home about. But Zac Bagins (or Douche Bagins, as my son calls him, lol) finds all kinds of evil demons and radical spirits week after week..... I really lost interest in GH when Grant left the series in the backlash of getting busted for faking some "evidence".

There used to be a show on where this team would go out to all these places people say are haunted or they see something or a person is possessed, etc....and they always, always, always find the explanation to it and it's all completely easy stuff....magnets, camera faults, shaking of a wall from a nearby train going by, etc...

I wonder if that is still on the air. I liked that show. Wish I could remember the name and the channel.

Scifi had one like that for a while.

It was determined some time ago that Smith Cove on the island was a man made structure, and there is a connection between smith cove to the original money pit, as well as a cove on the other side of the island.

With this information, I have to ask

Why not build cofferdams across the entrances to these coves, pump the water out, and find out what the hell is in the damn pit?

littlewonder, I am not referring to you.

Now I dare anyone to disagree with me that the human race is getting dumber, people watch these shows to see nothing accomplished, to see practical solutions used to solve these mysteries.

If Mel Fisher had followed these techniques, he would have never found the Atocha, or his son finding the wreck he was actually looking for, the Concepcion`.

the thing is, they don't want to find anything. They are not even really looking. They are just making you THINK they are searching. They know that if they find something they won't be able to make a part II and part III and so and so forth. They would run out of shows.

And yes, I agree people are becoming dumber and dumber.

No, if they found something ratings would soar and they'd make millions on book deals and movie rights. And for Oak island there is always the treasure itself.

The problem is that, with the exception of Oak Island, there is nothing to find. With Oak Island there is the problem that you'd have to build a coffer dam a couple of miles in diameter and there is still the chance that you'd miss a cave entrance and your pumping the water out would be useless. Or the entire thing would collapse in on itself without the water to support it. There is evidence that there is something there, but what is anyone's guess.

I have not watched any of the shows mentioned but I know of the legends and have read many books on all three subjects.
