I remember a while ago you were getting into bee keeping and were trying to make a backyard orchard.
I was wondering how things are going and if you have any photos?!

Also to those of you who have veggie gardens would you have any pics to show off?
I realise it's not quite the season for a lot of the Americans here.

The orchard - most of the trees lived through the first year. I expect they'll overwinter fine.

The bees - the temps are too cold for me to check on them lately. I'll do it this weekend if it's warm enough to see how they're surviving the winter, and if I need to give them sugar blocks.

Keep in mind that 2/3 of the country is grappling with record storms, and nobody's got veggie gardens now.

I am waiting to order my tomato plants. Nothing like a BLT to brighten one's day....

I'd love a veggie garden. right now though my garden is water logged. this winter has been far too warm for us Brits. everything is confused by the weather.

I have tomatoes growing inside right now.
They are just little sprouts but I talk to them.
Wait, actually we have green onions, celery, onions, and garlic too I think.

My spearmint, parsley, and thyme were doing great in my cold frame, but some creature got to them >.<

Here's my big garden now. Note the composter in the back left :)

This is what it looked like when I moved in in 2012.

I am rather picturing K casually terrorising them by saying, "I'm going to eat you all one day." As she saunters by.
She is a Domme after all.[X(]

These are not my sweet potatoes, but my row of Georgia Jets did look like this. They were battling the cucumbers for dominance over the walkways.

Kalikshama,
Can't wait to see some pics in summer! That garden is huge!
PS, the snow makes the trees look nice, I don't get snow where I am.[:(]

crazyml -> RE: Backyard farming! (Attention DarkSteven) (2/12/2014 4:00:01 PM)

Right, so this has nothing whatsoever to do with anal sex then.

I do feel a teensy bit cheated.

Just sayin.

DesFIP -> RE: Backyard farming! (Attention DarkSteven) (2/12/2014 4:00:16 PM)

Aries, I'd love to give you my snow. Another 10 - 20 inches coming tomorrow 25 to 50 cm.

MAINEiacMISTRESS -> RE: Backyard farming! (Attention DarkSteven) (2/12/2014 4:47:36 PM)

My place is MOSTLY gardens. I have a 25x100 foot vegetable garden, another 25x25 squash & cuke garden, a 15x30 zucchini/summer squash garden, 10 flower gardens of various sizes along the long driveway, roadside, kitchen doorway, and along several fencelines. I also keep an asparagus patch, blackberry patch, fruit trees and hope to set up an orchard with pears, plums, etc (when things get caught up).

People used to stop and photograph My farm before I had the entire yard ripped up to install a new septic tank and leach field.

And guess when GOOGLE MAPS decided to come down My road and photograph My house...right AFTER the septic installation was done. *sob*

MercTech -> RE: Backyard farming! (Attention DarkSteven) (2/12/2014 8:10:33 PM)

Have you ever done "chalice pruning" on the fruit trees?
I thought it was bunkum on increasing yield but it sure worked on cherry and apple treas when I lived in Wa.

FrostedFlake -> RE: Backyard farming! (Attention DarkSteven) (2/12/2014 10:32:08 PM)

I have some great pictures. But CM would get upset with me.

I have some lovely photos of My garden being tended by a sissydoll with a hoe...I'll get around to posting them eventually.
