The Amish Mafia, Moonshiners, and a couple of other shows claim to be filming men and women involved in illegal activities.

If this is true, why havent the appropriate law enforcement agencies moved in and arrested these people, as well as the film crews?

Which brings up the second question:

Do the producers really believe that the American people are stupid enough to believe the shows to be true?

WHAT???? They're NOT true???? But....but....they obviously aren't professional actors working with a rehearsed script....right? I mean.....they SAY they are real and true.....why shouldn't I believe them??

Next thing I know, you're going to try to tell me that WWF wrestling isn't real either......

Yes.
And I agree with them.  Reality shows titillate.  It gives people a chance to feel better about their own lives.  It validates what they feel.  TV reality is the updated version of any gossip magazine and just as in the magazines people buy into them by the millions.

That was a rhetorical question, right?

A "reality" show is no more "real" than any other scripted show, it just doesn't have established actors making mega-salaries (which I think is the reason why producers started making them and continue to make them). I read where Honey Boo Boo's family makes between 50 and 60 grand for each episode. Imagine what Will Smith or Charlize Theron would make per episode.

Heck, these days just film virtually any mundane activity, but put the word "Wars" at the end of it (Storage Wars, Shipping Wars, Cupcake Wars,...) and people will show up in droves to watch it.

Be careful of popping popular bubbles. Next you will be saying that WWF is choreographed.
