Thank God for, stalwart, courageous, masculine, manly men of character and integrity.

Who else has the testicular fortitude to protect us from the horrors and dangers of women speaking their mind?

I am not saying the Russian police were right in their actions, and I do agree that Domme, freeborn women not in a collar should have the right to speak their minds.

I am actually surprised these women have not ended up in an unmarked grave under a repaved Moscow road or Russian Highway.

You might want to rethink that point a little bit.

Consider the following:
1) Since Putin came to power, every "election" has ended with one of his hand picked croonies being elected as president or whatever they call it.

2) Some dissidents have disappeared over the years. The majority reappear badly malnourished, and if they were wealthy when they disappeared, they are dirt poor when they show back up, and they are given plane tickets out of the country with little more than the clothes on their backs.

Putin is evil - his eyes are absolutely flat. The closest I saw him to smile in the Olympic coverage was to twitch his mouth corners. He seems the sort to have secret police to take care of those who dispute his right to power.

Those chicks were idiots.

They didn't put on masks until they were ready to "perform" - even though they were surrounded by cameras. They did it while the cops were not only looking, but actively chasing them.

This has to be one of the stupidest methods of protesting I've ever seen.

Putin can do any damn thing he wants to in Russia. He is basically Stalin without the moustache and is using exactly the same methods. Watch for the Ukraine to become a satellite again and then the crap will hit the fan there again.

Oh I don't doubt that Putin will get away with what he thinks he can but Pussy Riot is in the public eye. It may be scant protection but scant is more than nothing. As for their leaving the country, perhaps they should. It would be the safer thing to do but I think they are smart enough
to know that. I think they stay because they choose to stay, Russia is their country after all . . . their home. Personally, if I could, I would counsel them to leave but only because their is a certain hypocrisy in telling others to fight when you're not the one who will get beaten or worse.
That aside, I do admire their courage.

I had the impression they were making a music video.

Note the cameras, the lack of amplifiers, the serendipitous BLUESCREEN backdrop selected dictated the location and the location was well out of the way. Note the instruments, mics and 'costumery' in the process of being deployed when a hoard of uncalled-for policemen showed and re-enacted a certain mace meme, before getting into some non consensual public kink. Note the officers outnumbering the civilians. Note also the lack of arrests by said violent officers. That last point by itself is pretty important. Law enforcement with out law. Few wish to live under the protection of such. About 1%. And they, only until it is their turn in the barrel.

I expect the event affects peoples thinking, the nearer the dearer and if that is what protest, and art, and politics, is about, it may have helped simply by being what it is.

I have no problem imagining police anywhere getting out of hand. In this case it happens to be in Russia. I just find anyone who would beat up on someone, especially someone who is not harming them in return (bullies, in other words) contemptible.
Doubly so when it is men beating up on women.
