shadowborn61 -> not sure how to report this. (2/22/2014 10:34:33 AM)

So i log in today and see that someone has viewed my profile and i click on their name to view their profile.
In the box for information about the they tell you to check out this link to see what they are into.
It leads to a video site that immediately tries to download a virus! Thankfully my protection is very good so it was stopped.

This doesn't have anything to do with "General BDSM" discussion.

Why are you dumb enough to click random links?

This is now in Off Topic.

OP, please send an email using the Site Support link at the bottom of the profile page.

Dear OP, Please turn your computer off, place it in its original packaging and return it to the store as you are obviously not capable of handling such equipment responsibly.

If you do not have the original packaging, please consider donating it to the local domestic abuse shelter or other charity.

I think that's a bit harsh, not everybody is computer savy and people do stupid things, hubby was sent a virus (our system caught it) from a guy who headhunts senior IT personnel.... Shit happens.

Kudos for telling others about it and avoiding that somebody else might be infected.

But yes, clicking on random links is not very smart...

Why the heck would you click on a link in a profile for someone you know nothing about? "Click on this link to see what I am into" is lame - everyone real puts their info right there, with no links. I'[m glad you have good virus protection, but this sounds like malware rather than a virus.

1) If they have absolutely nothing listed in their profile below the initial information, do not click on a link to "see what they are into." Sorry, I am a former army grunt and even I am smarter than that, and a grunt's IQ is 20 points higher than the average rock.

Clearly, failing the common sense test, may I suggest you join the Marines? The really dont look for intelligence in their ground pounders, they just want them smart enough to aim and hit their target.

As for your computer, box it up, give to a charity. Ohio Art makes the perfect model for you.

Rawni -> RE: not sure how to report this. (2/22/2014 12:09:28 PM)

Wow... you all, come on. There are things that you don't even have to click for it to pop up. Think about some web pages where advertisements pop up if you run the mouse by them and you don't have to click anything, it sets something in motion. People embed things in their profile, you never know what you might find out there and you don't always have to do something.

You know how people check pictures? Well guess what? You can check a pic and get something. A number of people here do that. You go to youtube... who is to say that no one making a video, won't add something to it?

Two of the worse viruses I got was doing a search and finding a link in a popular search engine that was okay with my anti virus and bam... Look up google redirect. Then I got one from going to a site I had gone to for years to download things, review software etc. I still have issues with that one and fight it constantly because other than a reformat... I am not getting rid of it and I have malwarebytes and Revo uninstaller... kicked the shit out of this thing and then crippled... it built up a bit more.

Once a long time ago, someone in yahoo chats, would send you a message, even if you didn't accept or respond... whatever he had on that and all he needed was your name and a guess... he would take your computer out.

Anti virus and all that cannot catch everything and nothing is totally safe. The ones I have gotten, Norton and a number of other paid and well received anti viruses didn't stop.

I have heard... no way can they do that to a number of things, that I have seen done. I can't explain it, but I know it happened, as I don't open shit, don't use yahoo for email, don't do FB, don't leave a trail very often and am real careful.

It happens. It is best to know what to do when and if it does. That I have learned the hard way and to much expense.

Sorry Rawni.... all good advice and all that and also some good points made.
Sometimes the script kiddies do some nasty hidden shit that catch people unawares.

But to click on random links.... in a profile of someone you don't know, FFS???
That's just sheer stupidity and reckless.

Even my kids at junior school knew not to do that shit.

kiwisub12 -> RE: not sure how to report this. (2/22/2014 3:58:11 PM)

I guess that makes me a moron then - because if I click on a profile of someone who interests me I would probably follow a link...[X(]

If you read the TOS on the user side, you are not to include links, email addresses or phone numbers in your profile description. The reasoning is simple, links can lead you to malicious websites, malware and viruses.

My advice: install NoScript, and ensure it is configured to disable Java by default. That will eliminate 99% of surfing problems, including the one you describe.
