The firing of a .577 T rex round I admit I am a gun nut. I am trying to figure out how to make my savings grow faster so I can get a Barret bolt action 50 cal rifle sooner. I have fired the world's most powerful handgun, an elephant gun, however, that being said... I have no desire to fire a rifle that has a recoil that will put my shoulder 50 yards behind where I am standing. Now this weapon was designed to stop charging big game, Elephants, Rhino, Water Buffalo, chevy trucks, dinosaurs, and lets not forget the very aggressive concrete wall. In one review, a gun magazine stated that unless you hit the animal in the exact right spot, you are just going to piss it off and not be able to fire another shot due to extreme pain. Now I have admitted that I think an elephant saddle gun is practical on the offhand chance you are on the back of an elephant when a tiger jumps out of the brush, this rifle I am questioning. So first answer why you would want one, and then give a good reason why it is necessary.

While I haven't been hunting in years, and I don't see me doing so in the foreseeable future, I still like the idea of having the option of doing so. I wouldn't call me a gun enthusiast, aside frm my general love for gadgets and tools, but I keep talking myself out of picking up another shotgun (since I gave my last one to my son). On my bucketlist is to go to the range and learn how to shoot and maintain a rifle. Why? Same reason I wanted to learn how to paint. Because it is something I want to do. Although I don't want to fire anything with a huge kick. Also, because I've been to the archery range and know there's almost a little to zero chance of me bringing home dinner with a bow and arrow. I can hit a target but just barely. I won't even touch a handgun. Not sure why, but they scare the beejeebus out of me.

The problem isn't the round, it's the rifle. No muzzle-break, no gas recoil reduction and no recoil reduction of any kind in the stock. I just looked it up and the .50 BMG with an 800 grain round has comparable ballistics.

Now has anyone ever told you that you kinda take the fun out of watching stupid people shoot a gun they are not prepared for? Seriously I laughed while I watched this. Not a single one of them really tried anything different.

Well when I fire my nitroexpress, I usually brace myself against a tree or some other solid object. Doesn't make the recoil any better but it does allow me to control the weapon.

A wise man never asks a question he does not know the answer to, and we both know what the answer is. The reason there are ridiculous calibers like the .577 T-Rex has nothing to do with hunting dangerous game, it's simply (at the risk of sounding like a Prius-driving left-wing liberal) a 'penis enlargement' device. Just like an H1 Hummer, or a Ford 650 in civvy drag, it exists purely because there are guys out there who want the biggest and baddest round they can come up with. Like the .50 AE, it serves no earthly purpose other than for its owner to haul it out for bragging rights. You do notice who most of the shooters of this behemoth are, n'est pas? I highly doubt this weapon/caliber would even take game, unless at supreme risk to the operator, who probably is so flinch-prone from one or two shots as to be impossible to hit the target. There are century+ cartridges that perform efficiently without tearing the shooter's arm from its socket.

That anti truck gun needs a hook mounted under the muzzle. In case of emergency, you break the glass by stuffing the weapon through it. Then you drop the weapon on the sash and pull it back to engage the grapple. You engage the target taking care to maintain contact with the window sash. There is an Earth shattering kaboom. You then open your pocket knife and carefully dislodge the splinters of wood and glass from your face. I suppose I would take it along if I was colonizing a new planet. I've seen too many movies. But I don't know of anything on this planet you need that gun to deal with. Unless it has a motor. ETA : I just saw it again. If it weighs 15 pounds, then 11100 ftlbs / 15 lbs = 740 pounds of kick. if it weighs 12 pounds, it would come to 925 lbs. If it weighs 10 pounds, and it might, that would be an 1110 pound impulse. I weigh 148. 1110 / 148 = 7.5 I think the 9mm will be ok, for now. Big boys shooting big guns. .460 Weatherby, .50 BMG, Trex, others. Actual anti-tank rifle. 1941 style.

I didn't watch the video, but you did say designed for really big game. And I'd put a polar bear in that category.

Maybe if you padded the stock with a large amount of rubber, like the old Boyes anti-tank rifle, or that thing the Russians used in WW2, it would stop APC's and the like coming down your chimney

FR That video reminds Me of the running joke up here. Ask an Alaskan why they have the front site filed down on their guns? That way after you piss the grizzly off and he shoves it up your ass, it won't hurt as much!!!

There are plenty of off-the-shelf calibers perfectly capable of taking a polar bear. .338 Norma, .375 Winchester, .458 Winchester, etc. The important thing is to be able to hit your target, not punch holes in the air nearby. And you can only do that when you're capable of employing said weapon accurately and repeatably, which is only accomplished through practice. A weapon that tears itself out of your hands each time it's fired is less than worthless, it's a downright liability. Hits count, misses don't. And, the pig weight 15 pounds dry. I humped an M-60 enough (23 pounds, not counting ancillary crap) to know just how heavy that gets after awhile.
