Ya know, MrRodgers, you and I almost never agree but I appreciate your ability to be just snarky enough to not offer offense or belittle me, while you're belittling what I'm saying. You're one of the few lefties on this board with whom I'll still engage.
Having said that, I think either my meaning wasn't clear or you misunderstood it.
I was referencing the people who are so supportive of the beginning of the erosion of our free press; the people so vehemently in support of proposed FCC "monitoring" of news organizations.
There are certain things that (I feel) should always be "sacred cows"; that can never be abrogated or infringed in any way.
When a portion of people are so encouraged to pull at the first thread of that "sweater", we can see the beginning of the whole thing unraveling.
I don't think the timing of this law is any coincidence since the Idaho law-makers can point to the rising sentiment of "someone" needing to be in control of veracity, vis-à-vis the press in our country.
People can't say: "Someone needs to reign in these news organizations that don't tell the truth" and then, complain when some government, somewhere decides that they're going to fill the void.
Thanx for recognizing that I don't go after the messenger here or in a source, nor do I ever try to belittle people at all. I however do not otherwise know what you mean by 'you reap what you sow' and feel as though that in a very general sense and in a very powerful way, whether it is attempts to go after a free press or free trade, that there is a sort of new regime in this country and one of what I need to call...local fascism.
This is in the interest of govt. corruption, shielding it and corporate America. I also believe however, that when the chips are down, dems tend to favor labor and the people in general while the repubs tend to favor capital and the investor class, much to my disappointment.
This shows up in these anti-gay laws, laws against the free press and even 3rd class misdemeanors against small farmers on a permit violation that in any other case would render merely a citation instead causes 40-50 man swat teams to spend 5-6- hours taking all of your fresh farm produce, animal stock and dairy products and to 'enforce' laws purchased at the behest of the richest influences in govt.
A new culture of street-level Neo-Nazism is growing in the US and just wonder if the people aren't already being further intimidated into obedience and the bill of rights is already lost.
BTW, I am an independent conservative and am objective...calling [it] as I see it and in many ways...Obama is playing ball and is Bush III for lack of a better or let's say...a more accurate comparison.
