Missokyst -> Songs and lyrics (3/3/2014 12:19:09 PM)

I was signed into my Pandora station this morning when an old Jefferson Airplane song hit the airwaves.

It is called Triad, written by David Crosby and these are the lyrics:

You want to know how it will be
Me and her or you and me
You both sit there with your long hair flowing
Your eyes alive, your minds are still growing
Saying to me what can we do now that we
Both love you -- I love you too
But I don't really see, why can't we go on as three

You are afraid, embarrased too, no one has ever in your sweet short life child
Said such a thing to you
Your mother's ghost stands at you shoulder
Got a face like ice -- just a little colder
Saying you can not do that it breaks all the rules
You learned in school
But I don't really see, why can't we go on as mmm three

You know we love each other it's plain to see
There's just one answer comes to me
Sister lovers -- some of you must know about water brothers
And in time maybe others
So you see what we can do
Is to try something new - that is if you're crazy too
But I don't really see, why can't we go on as three
three

Funny how I never noticed songs with a different spin on it when I was young. I heard that song as a youth and just loved her voice and the rhythm and part of me was drawn to the hypnotic quality to her voice. But I never heard the Poly theme until today.

Another song caught my attention recently, Hallelujah, by Jeff Buckley.

This stanza in particular caught my ear:

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah...

Now that you are older with some experience under your belt do you catch yourselves surprised by the lyrics from songs you may hum along with not really paying attention to the detail?

What are some songs that took your breath away when you found their meaning?

I've had such a knack for memorizing and hearing lyrics- so there are few songs I didn't "get" at first.
Hallelujah has long long been a favorite, but I got the imagery right away (and is also originally by Leonard Cohen).

Not necessarily about kink, but every time I hear it I'm still surprised by how risque I find "Damn I wish I was your lover" by Sophie B. Hawkins to be.

Shifty
Lol. You made me think of something I haven't thought of in a long time. Back when my first born was around 2, I was still just listening to the radio or CDs in the car. Until one day, in his stroller, in a VERY quiet store, he starts singing " Dan...I wish I was your lover "

I bought a Raffi CD the same day.

Hell....I remember it took me until I was 24 or 25 before I actually paid attention to and understood "Under My Thumb" by the Rolling Stones....LOL

Hmmm... I never heard this song but it is definitely twisted.

"Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover"

That old dog has chained you up, alright
Give you everything you need to live inside a twisted cage
Sleep beside an empty rage
I had a dream I was your hero

Damn, I wish I was your lover
I'd rock you 'til the daylight comes
Made sure you are smiling and warm
I am everything, tonight, I'll be your mother
I'll do such things to ease your pain
Free your mind, and you won't feel ashamed

Open up on the inside
Gonna fill you up, gonna make you cry

This monkey can't stand to see you black and blue
I give you something sweet each time you come inside my jungle book
Or is it just too good?
Don't say you'll stay, 'cause then you go away

Damn, I wish I was your lover
I'd rock you 'til the daylight comes
Made sure you are smiling and warm
I am everything, tonight, I'll be your mother
I'll do such things to ease your pain
Free your mind, and you won't feel ashamed
Shucks, for me there is no other
You're the only shoe that fits
I can't imagine I'll grow out of it
Damn, I wish I was your lover (oh, yeah)

If I was your girl, believe me
I'd turn on the Rolling Stones
We could groove along and feel much better (guess what)
Come, let me in, mm
I could do it forever and ever and ever and ever
Give me an hour to kiss you
Walk through Heaven's door I'm sure
We don't need no doctor to feel much better
Let me in, oh
Forever and ever and ever and ever and ever

I sat on a mountainside with peace of mind
And I lay by the ocean making love to her with visions clear
Walked for days with no one near
And I return as chained and bound to you

Damn, I wish I was your lover
I'd rock you 'til the daylight comes
Made sure you are smiling and warm
I am everything, tonight, I'll be your mother
I'll do such things to ease your pain
Free your mind, and you won't feel ashamed
Shucks, for me there is no other
You're the only shoe that fits
I can't imagine I'll grow out of it
Damn, I wish I was your lover

I wanna open up, I'm gonna come inside
I wanna fill you up, I wanna make you cry

Damn, I wish I was your lover
Gettin' on a subway, and I'm comin' uptown

Damn, I wish I was your lover
Standing on the street corner, waiting for my love to change

Damn, I wish I was your lover
And I'm feelin' like a school boy, too shy and too young, oh

Damn, I wish I was your lover
I wanna open up, I'm gonna come inside
I wanna fill you up, I wanna make you cry

Damn, I wish I was your lover
I'm gettin' on my camel, and I'll ride it uptown, oo

Damn, I wish I was your lover
Hanging around this jungle, wishing that this love would change

LOL oh, I got that meaning the first time I heard it.  I remember it pissed me off.

"Under My Thumb"

Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around
It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ain't it the truth babe?
Under my thumb
The squirmin' dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways
It's down to me, yes it is
The way she does just what she's told
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it's alright
Under my thumb
A siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world
It's down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah
It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright
Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else
It's down to me, oh that's what I said
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Say, it's alright.
Say it's all...
Say it's all...
Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe
Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe.

Brian Jones on the marimba!

I remember being entranced by the marimba notes before
I had a clue to what the words were saying. Later, when I
did understand the words I knew I was supposed to be pissed
but I really wasn't. I was to enthralled with the idea of being
a Siamese pet of a girl. I was first exposed to Under My Thumb
by mother, she use to play it a lot when I was a kid. She also
use to blast me out of the bed on school mornings with Get Off
of My Cloud.

I think I was a little shocked when I learned Turning Japanese
by The Vapors was about masturbation. I'm not sure when I
clued in that Dancing by Myself ( Billy Idol) was about the same
topic. But I knew right off the bat what I Touch Myself (The DiVinyls)
was about.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Songs and lyrics (3/3/2014 10:20:58 PM)

I'd have to go with: "Evil Fantasies" (I was 15, the first time I heard it). I found one with the lyrics underneath.

Missokyst -> RE: Songs and lyrics (3/4/2014 9:02:17 AM)

That is a surprise to me.  In the first song I assumed that it was just some kid obsessed with his gf.  Then I read about the cell and the no sex no drugs no wine no women.. lol I mean what else is there to do to kill a bit of time except masturbate?

The Billy Idol song was easier for me.  He always gave me the impression he was a bit self involved.

Missokyst -> RE: Songs and lyrics (3/4/2014 9:09:15 AM)

Rough sex might have caught my eye, but Judas Priest was a bit more hard core rock than I was listening to at the time.  This song passed me by in my younger years although if I had read the lyrics I might have added it to my life of "go to" songs when I was feeling reckless.

quote:

I'd have to go with: "Evil Fantasies" (I was 15, the first time I heard it). I found one with the lyrics underneath.

We turn and face each other
My fingers pull your hair
You wince and jerk my wrist off
I bite my lip and stare
Your stance at once defiant
I'm rigid to your pose
You clench your teeth in anger
My loving swells and grows

You give me evil fantasies
I wanna get inside your mind
Come on and live my fantasies
I'll show you evil you can't hide

You're dragged into my vision
Trapped, subservient to my needs
Maybe imagination
Is where my dark side feeds
You slide your nails down in me
I raise my structure high
You pout, I snarl, you whimper
And wave compassion 'bye (ohhh)

You give me evil fantasies
I wanna get inside your mind
Come on and live my fantasies
I'll show you evil you can't hide

A, give me evil

Gonna take you, wanna get through
Gonna make you, do what I want

You're dragged into my vision

Trapped, subservient to my needs
Maybe imagination
Is where my dark side feeds

[fading refrain:]
C'mon, evil. Yeah! You give me evil, evil fantasies.
C'mon! You evil. Yeah! Gimme, gimme, gimme fantasies.
I want it, you got it, those evil fantasies.
Oh, you need it! I'm gonna give it!
Give it, give it, give it fantasy-ohhh!
C'mon and get it, get it! Fantasies...

I've always loved "I Touch Myself"....that's one of my favorite songs.

But of course....if you want to talk about masturbation....how can you not mention "She Bop" by Cyndi Lauper? I always loved the video with everyone walking around in dark glasses and white canes like they were blind. LOL
