My bastarding cats have brought in a little baby rabbit, it looks like it's a feral one but it's very tiny (roughly the size of a coke can, a bit bigger), I called the vet and have an appointment with her later in the afternoon, little thing seems to be unharmed (still think it should get antibiotics in case the cats scratched it), Dobie girl adopted it as a puppy straight away and growls at the Dobie boy and the cats if they just get near...

I basically don't know much about rabbits, but if it's a feral one, I don't think it could be a house rabbit or ever be used to live in captivity, now since it seems to be too little (given the time of the year and the size, it can't be very old) to release it somewhere after the vet saw to it, and gave it injections. I'm pretty much out of my depth as to what to do with it. If it needs a bit of nurturing until it's old enough to live out in the wild, I'd be fine with that, but then it might have become too used to humans and dogs to survive in the wild...

It doesn't seem to be terrified of me or Kia (which I find pretty strange since one of the cats must have caught it and dragged it in and then released it on the landing, basically the noise it made when it knocked over books in the shelf in an escape attempt alerted me, that must have been fairly traumatic), it also nibbles some "living leaves" salad I have growing on the window sill, it's happily snuggled up with Dobie girl who enjoys playing mom (she always had a thing for rabbits)

I'm really tempted to put a foot up the butt of my cats for causing problems, they're vicious little shits

Problem solved, vet called back, it's a domestic small rabbit that went missing, so I can just bring it to the vet who will let the owner know that the pet has been found... I wasn't quite ready to be a bunny mother...

Be careful when it's in the house. It's a gnawing animal and will chew on the moldings if you let it. Also, rabbits will chew on electrical cords too.

It's cuddled up with Kia, who thinks rabbits are little Doberman puppies, I'm hunting around to find a box, but it looks as if I'll just use the cat carrier to bring it to the vet, explains why it wasn't terrified of me. Thankfully not another family member....

I wouldnt be putting a rabbit in anything smelling of cat, the fuckin thing will have a heart attack.

Thanks, good thinking, I just don't have any boxes that I can close and going to the vet, I have to cross 2 main roads, I don't want the bunny being squished under a car.... I thought the cat carriers would be ideal for transport, I don't really want something that gnaws a lot in one of my handbags (where it will possibly poo and pee), but I didn't think about the cat smell... I could use a waste paper basket and just put a cover over it.... Tie some cloth over it?

The only thing I know about bunnies is that they're cute.

I'm really commenting here because I thought it kind of funny that you should start a thread on sexual urges then one on bunnies.

Cat carriers work for rabbits large enough not to get through the grating. They can gnaw out but not in a short period of time it would take to get to the vet.

I had house bunnies for several years. I recommend if you're taking it outside that you try to keep things dark, so that it doesn't get stressed by the lights and sounds. I used a cat carrier for my bunnies and it was fine. I just draped a towel over the mesh so it stayed relatively dark in there.

I wouldn't use anything cardboard - if bunny wees and then scrabbles (which they do) then it'll be out and gone in a flash. Just wipe out the cat carrier with a damp cloth, put a towel or some newspaper in the bottom and it will be fine.

Using half the flour (3/4 cup) coat the pieces of rabbit, shaking off any excess. Heat the oil and butter in a large heavy-bottomed saucepan, and brown the floured rabbit on all sides. Add the celery, carrots, onions, salt, pepper, bay leaves, 6 cups water and red wine, and stew for about 2 hours. Add the potatoes 45 minutes into the stewing process. Once the rabbit and all the vegetables are cooked, use some water to form a paste with the remaining 3/4 cup flour. Stir the flour mixture into the pot as a thickener. Add the already sauteed mushrooms to the stew and allow to simmer for about 10 minutes. Adjust seasonings, if necessary, and serve.

You saved that rabbit for sure, cats like to do a long torture on a rabbit. The cat will make a game out of it, I think it likes to hear the noises of the rabbit. I chased a cat off one night late after work that had a rabbit pinned down, it made the most awful noises. I stood there awhile until the rabbit ran off into the nearby woods.

A neighbor of mine had 2 small bunnies he kept in the backyard. Quite soon there were a few more, then a few more, and now he buys hay by the stack and has a dozen such stacks around his yard to feed the horde of rabbits there. Turns out not to be a wives' tale. And they survive the neighborhood cats just fine.

If there's anything in this world that's deadly to me, it's a rabbit or worse yet, a bunch of them. I cannot be in the same building w/one without my throat attempting to close up on me.
Which is why, when a gf of mine used to have a pet Burmese python, (and was too squeamish to feed it herself), yours truly was elected to do the job. While holding my breath. I had no problem chucking the would be cause of my imminent demise into the cage which held its own & after thoroughly washing all traces of bunny offa me, sat down to watch National Geographic live, uncut & graphic.

I had a buddy with a very large burmese once...he'd "adopt" kitten and puppies from infront of the grocery stores when ever he could for that reason....

I really could have done without knowing that. Now every time I see people donating kittens or puppies in front of the grocery store, I'll have to warn them!

I really could have done without knowing that. Now every time I see people donating kittens or puppies in front of the grocery store, I'll have to warn them!
