We have ant problems, too.  Of course if you live in an apartment it's probably even harder to get rid of the damn things.  And ours do bite on occasion.  I just Lysol them to death when I see them.

Just recently tried that stuff.  Doesn't work at all.

I'm really surprised. Gosh it worked great for me. We had those small reddish brown ants that you see at picnics....and the great big black carpenter ants. It worked well on both of those. I think they make different formulas for different ants and I seem to remember that the one I bought was for sweet eating ants.

Also, to keep them out of your cupboards lay a few bay leaves in each cupboard. I've also heard that ants won't cross a chalk line...but I have never tried that.

The termite guy recently told me there are cement eating ants as well.

The terro stuff I bought was also for sweet eating ants...that may be why it didn't work.  Our ants like most anything it really doesn't need to be sweet.

Do bay leaves work on ants?  I always thought it was just for weevils (or whatever those little bugs that like to invade flour are called).  It does seem to work with the weevils.

Last year, we discovered that our ants were coming in through small spaces by our radiators that led to a crawl space beneath part of the house.  We sealed up all the spaces and my husband used something he called "bug bomb" (I think it's made by Raid and has bomb in the name) and threw it in the crawl space.  That probably only works if you have them coming from a contained space like we did.

I'm also obsessively vigilant about patrolling around the house with insecticide and spraying any ant holes that are close to the house.  Or, if I see a trail of ants coming towards the house, I follow it back to their nest and wipe them out.  So far, we haven't had any ants this year.

Interesting....chalk lines, baking soda. My mom swore by the old fashioned baby powder.  Could it be possible that   white powdery/chalky stuff is a hard limit for ants? LOL

one of the other things you can try is borax ("common" clothes/household cleaner) or cinnamon sprinkled around the perimeters of the area.  I've heard cornmeal (and some people say rice) works as well... they eat it and it expands in their stomachs.. killing them.  Borax can also be used when mixed in with something they'd like to eat, like jelly or sugar, or what not.

There are several others as well (other than the usual insecticide sprays and traps) but I can't seem to think of the others.  If I come up with any more I'll make sure to post them.

Here in Texas we have billions, if not trillions, of fire ants, and a product called Sevin Dust works pretty well.

In Texas you also have roaches that are 4 inches long.  Ever wonder why they say everything in Texas is big?  Sure happy I no longer live there.....

The vinegar will age and deteriorate your concrete, making it crumble sooner. You can go to a pharmisist and sign for some boric acid and put small line around where the ants are coming in. This will work for carpenter ants, roaches and silverfish as well. I'm thinking also for many other bugs too, since I'm not seeing them anymore either. Keep away from pets and children, and I'd be extremely careful around food and eating utensils, as with any chemicals. Once it's become moist though, it's properties are pretty much negated. I've also heard about the chalk, but have not tried it. I had whole house tented, before moving in and my 1st year here, I had all kinds of creepy crawlies coming in, lady bugs and carpenter ants almost made it impossible to see through the windows, even though it had been tented just a couple of months before. A vast array of other creepy crawlies abounded, the likes of which I'd never seen in my whole life. I was horrified. I ran around and sealed up everything that even looked like a crack. Put new seals on doors. I put the boric acid around, inside and out (during dry, non windy season). I also put that ortho stuff around the outside of the house. I've only reapplied the boric acid once or twice since then and now only see the occasional bug. I am one to follow the ants back to the next and destroy it when I see them outside.

Round em up and instead of having a flea circus have an ant circus
Problem solved and you can make money by charging an entrance fee
