Apparently he then broke down the door with a cricket base so she would have been beaten to death.
But hay that's ok, she wouldn't have been shot.

Another glib rationalisation. Advanced by someone who doesn't know any of the parties involved from a distance of thousands of kilometres away. What might have happened in different circumstances is any one's guess and a guess is all it will ever be.

You have no way of knowing what might have happened if Pistorius didn't have such easy access to guns. Nor do I. Nor ooes any one else, including Pistorius. However we do know for certain that Pistorius had easy access to guns and this easy access enabled him to bypass the locked bathroom door and kill her.

So please try to stick to the known facts and lose the self serving glib rationalisations.

Everything you just said applies to you every bit as much as to me.
Except of course that I blame the killer, you don't

Its about time you blamed a killer for something

I was chastising her for claiming nobody believed that when you take pride in that belief.
Symbolic, to you, causing me to murder someone, no way.

Really, how much more obtuse is it possible to be?

I no more 'take pride' in the belief that guns hold symbolic power than I take pride in my belief that the sky is blue. Moreover, guns have a *great deal* more symbolic importance to you than they do to me or, for example, Tweakabelle, Bama. This is very clear from your use of the tag line 'Free men own guns, slaves don't'. It takes a slavish mind of the first order to venerate a line as monumentally stupid as that just because some 'high governmental institution' in your country has said it.

That line must really get under your skin, I was thinking about changing it but now I don't think so.

And every time you bring it up you display your contempt for all things American.
Particularly your asinine insistence on misspelling SCOTUS

Well, if you think I'm oppressing you, why don't you just shoot me? After all, you have a gun and that ensures your freedom, doesn't it?

What a stupid comment.
No need to shoot you, we already got rid of the misfits in our country.......shipped them back to England.
More to the point having a big mouth and an arrogant attitude doesn't qualify a person to get shot.
And you couldn't oppress me if your life depended on it.

rockspider -> RE: South Africa -- Pistorius Trial -- Sensless Murder of Girlfriend (3/16/2014 7:13:36 PM)

I lived in that country for nearly 20 years.
I have followed the case as best I can in the media here in Denmark. I can’t pass a judgment about he is guilty of the one or other things. That really depends on his intents at the time of the incident, but I will tell another story I have seen countless times in the medias in South Africa.
At 3 AM, head of the household wakes up as he think he has heard something sneaking around in the house. He grabs the 9 mm parabellum from the night stand and sneaks up and in to the lounge. When he gets there he sees a shadow moving and opens fire on it. When he gets the light switched on he find his 16 year old son laying on the floor, dead. He had just being out and was obviously afraid that the parents would give him hell for being out that late.
Tragic, but stories like this could be read in my daily newspaper almost weekly. Whether it was a similar incident or he wanted to kill I am not sure. I wonder if the judges ever becomes sure of it too.

Does this mean we finally have someone defending Pistorius?

You know full well that none of his previous offenses merited a life sentence, even South Africa doesn't have a Minority Report
society. In the U S he would not have been able to legally own a firearm

Okay, so my question is how do we remove potentially dangerous people from society if people might commit fatal crimes.

You claim in the U.S. he would not have been able to legally own a firearm, but you don't believe guns cause violence, so if the South African government followed the same rule, how would that have prevented the murder?

Again, I would like to understand what rules could possibly be implemented to remove dangerous people from society because of all of you who believe that removing guns has ZERO impact on violent crime.

It wouldn't have.
You jump around.
You can't go around locking people up because they might someday maybe do something wrong.
That would be a total police state worse than murder.

I'm not sure that there is a point to asking such questions ftp.

As I understand it, Bama's core position is: Guns are good. Killing 'bad guys' with guns is good. Therefore any means to prevent access to guns is bad.

The rest of Bama's rhetoric is just that - rhetoric, designed to sugar coat an obsession about guns. There is no reason to treat it as anything other than empty rhetoric.

Read Fucktoyprincess's post, she is talking about removing people from society who might
commit a crime. My response was not about guns, or even self defense but about the Minority Report society that would require.

FR

The prosecution has entered evidence that she was screaming
before receiving the fatal injuries.
If true it wrecks his claim that he thought it was a burglar.

Pistorius was sentenced today, he got 5 years. The defense team expects him to be out in 10 months. Hard to believe.

You don't seem to comprehend the difference between depriving people of firearms because of specific crimes they have committed and depriving everyone of them. Contrary to what you want to believe virtually all pro-gun people favor keeping them from people who have committed violent crimes.

What a slap in the face, to his victim and her family.
That vile dirtbag got away with murder.
