Alright after careful consideration, it has come to my attention that creepy, scary landscapes do not have prickly pear cactus, yuccas, mesquite and brown grass.

So, I am looking for at least 600 acres, large numbers of burr oak, a granite or basalt outcrop that a large castle can be built on. Also needed is a year round flowing stream to set up a private hydroelectric plant (i plan to set the heat sinks in ponds so that when it gets really cold, ground fog will develop) to supplement the wind and solar systems.

This of course means the property must be located in the north east, which as we well know is not the south, but I will have a southern born (or Irish) priest consecrate the ground and declare it part of the sovereign soil of Texas.

Now people from collarme will be welcome to visit at anytime.

You just described 90% of Northern Ontario.

We will be glad to assimilate you.

The mountains in Tennesee.

You can actually find something close to that within an hour drive of Nashville.

All kinds of granite outcrops in north Georgia. Try Rockdale County. Problem is the whole place is over run by subdivisions and malls. It used to be nice.

Pyro, please understand, I am an old school horror fan, the scary trees, the fog coming off ponds and streams, the creepy old castle on the rocky hill.

Bur oak grow outside of the forest canopy. More common in prairie than in the heavily forested Northeast.

The area that I am looking at is actually more bur and white oak than heavy forest. There is an old growth oak grove in the Pisgah national forest in NC that has trees so big it takes three or four people to link hands around them.

Wow! So beautiful! I'm so envious at what you could get for a million!
Over here, you're lucky if you can buy a 800 sqft apartment.

If they'd just stop blowing the tops off the mountains and such.

But nothing will ever compare to Sand Mountain in Alabama.

I was looking into the area along the Lehigh valley in Eastern PA. Lots of granite, rear round flowing streams (being from west texas, I year round streams is kinda rare) and lots of various types of oak trees.

Don't come to the Irish Wilderness of the missouri Ozarks unless you are willing to install a still.

How fan-fricking-tastic!! How could one tear one's self away from the constant light/sun display to get anything done during the day?

It's actually mostly shale and slate and fairly heavily built up. But anywhere North of there is where you really want to be. The fog generates itself, you can go for miles without seeing another house, gravel roads.

Bears, raccoons and coyotes.

Driving is dangerous due to all the deer. No local cops - only State Troopers who are often 45 minutes or an hour away.

Rednecks everywhere. Sure, it's all slate and coal, no granite - but a lot of it's been strip mined which gives it an eerie (not to be confused with Erie, PA which is much further South) landscape at times.

The area that I found a NGS of granite is down in Lehigh county, near Allentown and Easton. Or I could go up from Easton toward the Delaware water gap and get roughly the same type terrain.

I grew up right in the area near the Delaware Water Gap. You won't find more than a few acres, and you will be surrounded by highways and neighbors. Malcolm's correct. You have to go North up past the Poconos
