That is very kind of you LC! However, it sounds like a lot of hassle. If you could just get me a name of the book or any like it, I could look for it first, but haven't found much so far. Thank so much!

Seriously not a lot of hassle, I always have almost empty suitcases and dive into the shops in LA, so bringing stuff over, I hardly ever reach anything that is remotely near my baggage allowance anyway...

Through done comments from the author himself I assume?

I turned down a publishing house on one of my books that a so called friend played the middle man and sent part of my book to the publisher who was a friend. I was starving at the time... Now, I self publish and many famous writers have gone to self publishing. They have the name... why not? They make more royalties self publishing, they call the shots, they don't have to work with the publishing house and have permission to use the cover they want or to change things... they are in charge, but in charge of everything. Marketing, editing, etc. It is truly an author in charge and a bit of luck. The market is saturated with authors, great and horrible and everything in-between. The reader must be careful. If they only want the best of books, they need to research the author a bit, look at things like reviews or sales... but even those aren't always a good way to find a good book. I have bought some books that were by people well received... fantastic reviews and couldn't tolerate even the first chapter. I have found authors that were unknown, didn't make sales, had no reviews and had a life changing moment with that book! No longer do the publishing houses control everything, what books are available, what we read, what they want published and who they want to publish. It's a whole new game out there. Opening the door for people like you and me. Publishing houses are a bit freaked because they used to be the power behind everything and now they are watching that power fail. They publish an author, the author is excited and their books go for high dollar when they finally get published, but to download that book by all the ways we now can read, will cost you more than the hard copy book because the publishing houses want digital and self publishing to end. There may be a publishing house not doing this, but I don't know of one yet. It isn't a job... it isn't a lot of things I wish it could be... but you can do it. I couldn't understand how anyone could say writing was hard and many authors said that. Until I got into the trenches... spent a couple years learning, researching, etc. Then I started writing. OMG! There are days when I just have to set it aside, hate what I am doing, want to pitch the whole mess and then... a couple days later I am at it again, thinking that wasn't so bad. To say that we writers aren't temperamental... OMG again. We can beat ourselves up and intimidate ourselves like nobody else! I freaked out over how to format my book. For two years I was scared thinking I had to have help, I couldn't do it, the words and how to's freaked me out. The thing is there are books all over the place that tell you how to do it. Many are just money makers for the author, out dated and aren't the best, but these how to books are made out of forty pages (for example) and you need to buy twenty of these books to get the whole topic. There's big money in this because so many want to jump in there and be an author. Due to this, the book sales can be stiff. It used to be that a new book would be downloaded by many thousands during promotion if you went with Kindle KDP. Now, they do well to be downloaded a couple thousand times. Personally, I believe that this will drive some authors out of the market and things will settle down a bit... but who knows. It all changes sometimes by the day. You want to write... write... you want some help in having a 'job' like mine... give me a shout. I am not expert, but I can tell you my experience without having to buy twenty books. lol Actually, I have met a number of authors around here. Few will give you their real or pen name or the names of their books because we don't want our attempts to be shut down before we get started because we are into what we are into. Follow your dream... whether it takes you where you want to go or not... you too can be an author. And... I stand corrected on the bitches thing! ROFL

[/quote] Once you get over your dislike of all things American, you could possibly do your research, sure a lot of movies are fast food, and I'm not really a fan of movies and TV, but I somehow fell into working on a script of a bestseller for the movie adaption, things that work in books don't always work on the screen, cinematic effect, the fact that most movies work under a limited time frame, have a budget, etc. plays a factor... Not to mention that you are having massive amounts of money at stake and a few flops can destroy a studio, so the movie adaptions have to tailored to an audience and actually get that audience to purchase tickets. It's not that I dislike all movies, but it takes a good movie to keep me watching it for 90 minutes or more, I want a good story, good acting, good visual effects, another bang bang heist movie with Tom Cruise dangling from wires isn't going to do it. The BBC adaption of the Tudor series was quite good, Californication, Breaking Bad, Borgias - great stuff, attention to detail, superb casting, great acting, good story lines.... As for the movie of some crown prince getting married, blissfully missed it, I guess so did most people. My attitude to fiction is just fine, spent some time studying literature and dedicated 3 years of my life on a thesis (yeah, I guess I won't ever get that time back), but I can appreciate literature, fiction just doesn't need to be pulp. America has been the leader in many technological, scientific, medical and many more fields and I truly admire them for that. It has produced many of the daily things we take for granted today. But on the same note I hear that a great deal of the population still believe so strongly in the creation theory that they wish to ban teaching in evolution. Fuck!!!! Is that really the same people? Why don’t they take the flat earth theory in? After all, creation and flat earth comes from the same source!!! Another example: In my years of working abroad I have often worked with American or American lead companies. Doing so they came in my home and us in theirs and enjoyed many excellent home cooked meals. I also love Cajun cooking. That still don’t make any difference to the fact that I consider McDonalds as the worst crap one can get everywhere on this planet. Hollywood has made some great movies which I have enjoyed. But they certainly also made a lot of absolute garbage. American TV series seems to get worse and worse, even I must admit I truly enjoyed Californication. But stuff like Beverly Hills, Friends and the likes, which Danish TV seems to love making reruns of, can only be seen as a big yawn.

Funny, how you never seem to miss a dig against Americans then... As for Creationists, personally I never encountered them and I split my time pretty much evenly between the US and Europe, they are there obviously, but I never encountered them, just not the people I mix with. It's not like Europe doesn't have all sorts of weirdos as well. As for McD, well, not a secret that it is crap but they seem to sell quite well all over the world, or else they wouldn't have franchises everywhere. If Danish TV loves to make reruns of certain US series, it's because it works for them, they make money from it, pretty simple, it's a business and they make money from it, nobody invests into a movie studio because they want to further culture, it's an investment and they want their money back with interest . Books, movies, TV, everything where they produce a lot there is naturally a lot of crap.
