March 13, 2014 - Clinton Up As Obama, Christie Crash In Iowa, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Democrat Braley Leads In U.S. Senate Race
PDF format

In an early look at the 2016 presidential race in Iowa, Secretary Clinton leads Gov. Christie 48 - 35 percent, reversing a 45 - 40 percent Christie lead December 17, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Secretary Clinton has substantial leads over other Republican contenders, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds:

49 - 39 percent over U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky;
51 - 35 percent over U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas;
51 - 37 percent over former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida.

Independent voters shift from 44 - 35 percent for Christie in December to 46 - 32 percent for Clinton today. In fact, Clinton has leads of 12 to 22 percentage points among independent voters in the other matchups.

Clinton's dominance comes even as President Barack Obama gets a negative 39 - 57 percent approval rating in Iowa, compared to a negative 38 - 59 percent December 18.

Obama gets negative grades of 5 - 93 percent from Republicans and 37 - 59 percent from independent voters, while Democrats approve 77 - 17 percent. Negative grades are 35 - 61 percent among men and 43 - 53 percent among women.

"Politics is a team sport and the head of the blue team, President Barack Obama, isn't doing well in the eyes of Iowans. But that doesn't seem to be hurting teammate Hillary Clinton who swamps potential 2016 Republican competitors among the same electorate," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

"So much, at least for now, for conventional wisdom that as the president's popularity goes, so goes Democratic hopes for 2016," Brown added.

Iowa voters say 55 - 38 percent that Clinton would make a good president, the only listed candidate to get a positive score.

Christie would not make a good president, voters say 41 - 36 percent, reversing a positive 46 - 30 percent score December 17.

"Who said, 'All politics is local?' Secretary Clinton is benefitting from the fallout after a traffic jam a thousand miles away," said Brown. "When Quinnipiac University surveyed Iowans last December, Gov. Christopher Christie was the lead reindeer. But after the coverage of the George Washington Bridge lane closures, his nose is not so bright. Like the other GOP hopefuls, he now trails Clinton by double digits." U.S. Senate Race

This is the garbage I can't stand. There are midterm elections in just under 8 months, and the talk is already about the general election 2 years later. Constant campaigning wears on a soul.

I agree.  And you are only gonna be as bad in the polls as your last press.   Now, for some of those folks on the list, it will be continuous.

Seriously... There hasn't even been a single attack ad on Clinton yet, not to mention she hasn't even won the nomination of her party.

Go ahead and vote for Hill Lucy, we're rootin for ya.

I doubt we will get H.Clinton Jeb Bush dog and pony show (although it could be hilarious entertainment fun). Considering how worldwide politics is heating up a year from now we will have totally different playing field. Also, how long can Obama administration hold phony economy recovery illusion?

I'm not sure what's more pathetic; that the GOP seriously thought that Obama would try to get the presidential term limit changed or that they're so worried they won't be able to find someone who stands a chance at beating him in that fictitious 3rd election.

... .. be careful what you wish for...

Hillary is no friend to Canada (imo she will cause a big chill in Canada-US relations).. she claimed the 9/11 terrorists came from Canada remember? she shoots her mouth off without any basis in fact based on her bias.. she was doing something similar recently too, cant remember right now what it was (something international) but just shows to me she hasn't "changed her spots".. and I expect if she was nominated and did win to become the first female US Prez that it would go to her head.. imo she is just another Kim Campbell (she was very popular at the start too), Hillary has that whole aire about her just as Kim Campbell did.. God help the US (& the world) if that beatch wins.. I really hope there is some other Dem that can stop that from happening (as I do think the Dems will win the next election regardless of who they nominate)..

attack ads?
well its hardly worth spending the money right now with the bullshit they have to go to, to find a single possible candidate, because the low info voter has such a short memory.
Cos you know they have been attacking her since before benghazi, or dont you remember that far back?

The GOP has zero chance of winning the Presidency in 2016. The party lacks a platform on the budget, healthcare, the environment, and immigration. On foreign policy it has the legacy of the Iraq and Afghan wars. Lastly it's house membership is reckless and uninterested in finding solutions to national problems.

On this message board, not a single right wing poster can even articulate how the GOP would help the nation.
