damn all that early morning snark left me bereft of a comment I could post without getting a gold email in response to that Ken thankyou for bringing me back to my point quote:
ORIGINAL: thishereboi Every time the subject of healthcare comes up I keep hearing how the US is behind every other country and they should really be looking at these other systems and following them. Because its true and they actually are, which is why I posted the thread about a canadian doctor appearing before a committee in washington. Why can't the US understand that if it is already working elsewhere it will also work here. Because America is unique and doesnt "follow" or ask someone who actually thinks that you have the best system in the world. But then the subject of abortion comes up and no one wants to talk about the other countries policies. Actually it has been brought up before, ther WAS a thread about not allowing a 9 year old to have an abortion, and one about that poor woman in Ireland who was denied an abortion and died. But mostly because people from other countries arent discussing just abortion, but family planning, womens health programs that arent being cut by a group of fundie rightists. Please show where the same is happening in any other "civilised country? From what I have read the US has some of the most lenient laws out there yet I never see a thread about the poor women in those other countries who don't have access to abortions like they do here. This is a thread about a 12 week abortion ban in the US, deflect all you want. If you can afford an abortion, it doesnt matter what laws there are against it, you can get it done safely and without anyone giving a dam. however the poor are a different matter ... BUT in the countries Ive lived in, abortion is actually covered by healthcare NOT so in the US http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Abortion/Pages/Introduction.aspx http://www.choiceinhealth.ca/Page.asp?IdPage=8920&WebAddress=choiceinhealth Why does everyone concern themselves with american women and ignore the rest? Don't you care about all women equally? no, some I love, some I like, some I really dislike, and some are severely crazy batshit people, but as a whole yeahtheir personal liberty IS damned important to me, HOWEVER I am not super women, and altho I have worked with battered women(who are often battered when they find out they are pregnant) over the decades in both countries I find it irritating, that you think I can care for all countries and all women....I do my share because yes I AM damn passionate about it.for my self, my friends, my daughter and any grandchildren that come along Im such a lousy fucking person arent I.
