Got it. Entirely different people, then. One was a character living a far out life in a make-believe world, while the other was a man in a tv series.

LOL! Where's sunny? This has QOTD potential.

Yes a political joke badly changed with phelps entered...its the best I can do on short notice and a sad lack of knowledge on dead funnymentalists in the US ...sue me

It's not a bad rendering of the old joke, Lucy, but you did have one player that could have been better selected. Like Phelps, Kennedy and Jackson (and presumably Monica) were/are Democrats, but Newt is a Republican. And Kennedy is the only one who is dead.

Keep trying though, you'll get there eventually.

Must admit I won't miss him either.
Still, I hope that what seems to have been a troubled soul may find the peace that eluded him in life.

This.

I have to admit, in this case, the Truth won't be setting him free.

Sure thing, Lucy. Right behind a ham sandwich.

Now, to keep up on your homework, and since they were all probably before you took up your hobby, the big 3 on Republican fundy types would have been been Jerry Falwell, Oral Roberts, and Jim Baker, not that Phelps ever had anything like their money or influence.

Just found this thread after seeing Phelps is on his deathbed via another source.

DC, your generosity of spirit doesn't flag, does it?

Following dc's lead, God rest his warped soul.

According to the report, he was excommunicated from his "church" in 2013.

That caught my attention too. I wonder what the story is.

Maybe he started getting sick and did some real introspection?

FR

Sojourners, a magazine for progressive Christians of all stripes, posted a thoughtful and (imho) moving response to the news.

A Prayer for Fred Phelps

We should protest at his funeral w/ Collarme drag queens dancing and bdsm demos....[;)]

~ FR ~

Fred Phelps, a Priest, a Rabbi, and an Imam arrive at the Pearly Gates. At first the Priest and the Rabbi and the Imam felt a bit disconcerted, because none of them expected the others to be there. But when Saint Peter welcomed them and introduced them to an angel who would show them to their residences, they all followed along in anticipation.

Stepping into Heaven, they had only walked a little way along the golden path when they came upon a run-down hut and the angel indicated that this was the Imam's residence. The Imam looked sour, but the Priest and the Rabbi chuckled and cheered up considerably.

A little further along they came to another run-down hut, and the angel indicated that this was to be the Rabbi's residenece. "Oi vey," the Rabbi said, and the Priest smirked.

Still further along they came to a third run-down hut and the angel stopped and indicated to the Priest that this would be his residence. "This?" said the priest, looking at the stunning mansion next door. "Yes," said the angel, noting the Priest's gaze. "That is for Mr. Phelps," he explained.

"What?" exclaimed the Priest. "But why? I saved souls! Phelps taught hate! Did you ever see his signs?" "Oh yes," said the angel smiling. "And so did many who had harbored the same feelings until Phelps showed them with how ugly they were. He saved more souls than you did!"

K.

That a nice thought, K. There is likely a truth in there.

As for me, I refer back to the teaching from Jesus that it is better to be a man who ties a millstone around his neck and drowns himself in the sea, than to be one who drives children away from a relationship with God. Then I think of the families of the lost servicemen who had to endure the message of his "church", so their sacrifice could be exploited to spread the hate further. I'm going with Freddy goes to hell.

Therefore:

Fred Phelps dies and goes to Hell. Satan greets him, and tell him that he will be able to choose his eternal torment.

He is first taken to a scorching desert plain, and sees a vast number of people standing on their heads while fire ants march and bite across their naked bodies, and legions of demons walk among them, lashing them randomly with bamboo canes. He is horrified, and shakes his head, "no."

He next is shown a smoking and steaming lava field, covered with sharp rocks, and sees a vast number of people standing on their heads, while great flocks of carrion birds swoop in and rip at their naked flesh, and legions of demons walk among them, lashing them randomly with bamboo canes. With the same look of horror, he shakes his head, "no."

He is taken to a third place, where a vast number of people are standing in the foulest of feces up to their knees, and speaking quietly among themselves. He is disgusted by the filth, but looks at Satan and nods his head, "yes." Satan departs, leaving him, as as Phelps makes his way toward the nearest group, a great swarm of biting flies rise up into the air, and legions of demons carrying bamboo canes come marching in, with their leader crying out, "breaktime is over - back on your heads!"

According to the Beeb, the cunt is now dead, rather than merely whining and malingering.
I hope the twat suffered.

He took his time. Malingering little bitch: anybody would think he wasn't sure of his reward in the hereafter.

Yep, he is, he expired yesterday. The only regrets are that it didn't happen years ago and the rest of his spawn didn't join him
