Why is it that in the summer reality shows tend to be more existent than during the rest of the year? These are the reality shows just on network channels: Fear Factor; Last Comic Standing; So You Think You Can Dance; America's Got Talent; Rockstar: Supernova; and Big Brother. And that's only in a five day week.

I'm just waiting for this reality show: Producers of reality shows come up with reality shows ideas.

I don't watch TV, except on rare occasions.  (Movies, but not TV shows.)

I will tell you this, though:  I hate me some reality TV.  It's mindless crap and I lose brain cells viewing it.  Ever since "The Real World" and "Road Rules" back in the 90's reality TV has gone downhill.  Then again, that was when MTV actually played music videos.  Go figure.  And you're right.  The networks are latching onto any slightly leftover idea with vicious claws in hopes of making a buck or two.

I sit through Survivor when my wife watches it, just for the sake of chatting with her about it ... every other reality show sends me hiding into another room though (with the exception of the historical PBS ones).

I have to admit, I religiously watch America's Next Top Model, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and Project Runway.  I'm still trying to make up my mind about Rockstar: Supernova.

To the opening post....

Reality TV shows are more prevelant in the summer months because they are cheap to produce and summer is traditionally the time of year where the least amount of people are actually watching TV. Because of this trivial fact most shows go into rerun mode all summer long until the big fall line ups. Since reality tv is inexpensive to produce they run original reality shows on the cheap and get a larger audience share of the nielson ratings... and no I do not watch much TV either, but I do like Survivor and My Name is Earl and Desperate Housewives.. and I am not dedicated to any of these shows but My Name is Earl

I have to admit that I just totally despise reality tv, hate it, makes me sick to my stomach. Saw an add for a new programme, something along the lines of "intervention". Something about that just infuriated me totally. There is only one reality programme I will confess to having watched a few episodes and enjoyed "The Osbornes". It was more comedy than reality, but I still could only watch a few of them.
I hope and pray the whole mind numbing reality tv craze goes away.
I usually stick with the channels that will edumacate my brain, not because I am a snob but because it just interests me more. Otherwise if I have time, I love movies, just have a hard time sitting still long enough.

I named my rabbit after a big brother contestant with tourettes lol how sad is that?
I know what you mean though there are loads of them but the only one i take partial interest in is big brother.
Maybe they should do a bdsm big brother type thing - now that i'd go on lol.

Close.  They're really just a channel for telling teenagers exactly how they should act/dress/breathe to be popular in high school.  Oddly such behavior ultimately leads to unemployment and homelessness.

I really enjoy some of those shows. So You ThinkYou Can dance - watched it last year as well. I like seeing all the different types of dance
Survivor- always with my daughter we sit and talk about the players and watch them make the same mistakes over and over - and i enjoy seeing them suffer at times.
Now comes a new season of Big Brother- let the lies and backstabbing begin!
ah entertainment LOL
Don't know if it was last year or the year before but the Show "He's a Lady "was a blast! to watch

I listen to Rockstar:Supernova, as I love rock and roll, and I admit to being a downright junky for Big Brother. Survivor is all right, but that's about it.

Nakomis is back on Big Brother this season. Did You watch when she was on season 5- she made mention of BDSM and of her dad and his wife Pet. The others looked at her wide eyed  LOL. Just wish they had shown more of those conversations.

I actually like some Reality TV as I am fascinated with the  psychological dynamics that go on.  Of course, I am aware that things are edited to make it more interesting.
So You Think You Can Dance is pure entertainment for Me.  But then I am an Arts afficiando, and I love to watch a hip hop street dancer be assigned a partner and learn the QuickStep.  The talent is impressive, and it pushes people to new heights.
That said, there is much that I will not watch.  Some of it is just put out there for the sensationalism and a "ewwww" factor.
I am making room on My DVR to ensure that all the Big Brother All Stars episodes are recorded while I am in London!  *Wink*  And I wouldn't dream of missing Survivor!

Oh Man... Are you ever correct. I'd rather watch Bozo the clown or Oscar who lives in the garbage can. That's all I'm going to say. Some people I like have posted on this thread and refuse to offend them. ; }

Personally I think Hell's Kitchen has a dungeon downstairs. Gordon Ramsey takes the art of humiliation to a whole new level. LOL
