"Righting an historical wrong, President Obama today awarded the nation’s highest military honor to two dozen Army veterans who were previously overlooked, saying “today we have the chance to set the record straight.”

FR

It's unfortunate that our country has these kinds of issues in its past but it's nice to see them get resolved. To these men, alive and gone, I thank you for your service. Well done!

Having read the story, I have one burning question.

Considering the minority men who earned the Medal of Honor, how the hell can the claim prejudice?

quote:

The “truly historic” group includes 19 Hispanic, Jewish and African-American soldiers who were unjustly denied the Medal of Honor because of prejudice, passed over because of their race or ethnicity.

Chirst, read this list

or this list

You might make a case for the fact that only 27 Jewish Americans received the medal.

What the hell changed between the Spanish American War and WW1? Did the military suddenly discover there were different races and ethnic groups in the military?

What a truly heroic man. He volunteered (twice) for combat duty in Vietnam when most people his age were trying to avoid it.

Also, I think that some soldiers would have said: "Fuck it. It's just a bunch of maps" but this fine SFC knew without thinking about it that if those maps were left to the enemy, they could be damaging to our war effort and would result in more soldiers dying.

God bless him and thank God for servicemen like this.
