The possibly logical place to put this might be over in P & R (no S), but while I am curious, I also don't want the message to become distracted with sniping.

So, I will leave it here:

She said some things that really surprised me.
Well, a thing, anyway... and I just appreciated her thoughtfulness.

There really isn't a question, but I may share some commentary later.

Short and to the point.

This is why politicians are able to get votes even when they have vastly different views than their constituents.

You are correct that it doesn't belong in P&R. It's more about sociology or psychology; she never mentioned any political stance at all.

No, this is definitely the right place. The concept would be totally foreign over there.

Very nice. I enjoyed watching that. Thanks for posting (and yes, I think this is the right place, too).

I can't say I really like the term "emotional correctness," but I like the sentiment behind it. See a decent person on the other side of an argument, and it's possible to have a conversation instead. From there, you can persuade, instead of cudgeling. That's how you slowly bring people around, and sometimes come around a little bit yourself.

In an internet forum that'll just let any random opinionated asshole with a computer click a 'new post' button, what are the chances though?

And besides, where is the fun in that? I enjoy seeing somebody chain posting until 3:00 a.m. because I yelled "boo" into the private entrance on the loft space they gave me in their head. We joust, we jab, we throw elbows and rocks, and swing the odd ax handle (no shootings yet), and I think the overwhelming majority of people who engage in that way do so because they get some sort of kick out of it.

Emotional correctness... It sounds like it needs definitions and refined definitions, and focus groups, and sensitivity training. Liberal feel good fix it with a hug hogwash, in other words. [;)]

For our environment, I say try to laugh together on at least a couple of things. Go from there.

I like her...even though I don't watch Fox news (Mom downgraded the Dish package to a very basic one that we can live with).
