Yachtie -> Bye Bye Britain (3/22/2014 3:42:08 PM)

Islamic law is to be effectively enshrined in the British legal system for the first time under guidelines for solicitors on drawing up “Sharia compliant” wills.

Under ground-breaking guidance, produced by The Law Society, High Street solicitors will be able to write Islamic wills that deny women an equal share of inheritances and exclude unbelievers altogether.

How's that fairness and equality doing? [;)]

The writing is beginning to be seen on the wall. How shall it end? Think the Muslims will bend to liberalism's equalitarian values?

This is going to be fun to watch.[:D]

DomKen -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/22/2014 3:45:22 PM)

You do know that I could draw up a sharia compliant will in the US right now? That it would be enforced by every court in the country without contest?

Is the US the topic?[8|] Or am I mistaken?

Are you a clueless xenophobic conservative? [8|] Or am I mistaken?

TenderTorment -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/22/2014 4:07:57 PM)

And this will impact on the rest of the UK populace how?

I have the option to draw up a legal will discriminating or rewarding whomever I see fit, only seems fair that someone adhering to another culture has that same tool at their disposal.

This is one pretty insignificant ruling relating to people already living within that culture that will have zero to little effect on anyone outwith that culture. Of course you may see that differently than I, ya know, from all the wayyyyyyyyyy over there.

It`s what he gets for quoting the Telegraph.

Just more shitty reporting from the Daily Telegraph........ Sharia Law is not being enshrined in UK Law, reading the report makes that clear.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/22/2014 5:54:24 PM)

Actually, no you couldn't. In NJ and many other states in the US, you can't disinherit a spouse, so no you can't randomly leave "women" out if said woman is your wife.

You can disinherit children and anyone else. But not a spouse.

Do you understand the use of the word "effectively"? I rather doubt it.

I was unaware of that. My bad. In at least some parts of the US then you could.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/22/2014 7:27:51 PM)

Probably not many anymore. The names of both spouses also must be on the deed to a primary residence when purchased after the marriage.

I believe these laws all came into effect because so often women were left with nothing after a death or divorce. I'm pretty sure the residence one was about 1974. Don't know the inheritance one's date.

PeonForHer -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/22/2014 7:41:06 PM)

No offence meant, Yachtie . . . but, really, this is the stupidest OP I've seen of any thread in P and R for a long, long while. (And hell's bells, it was against some pretty stiff competition to win that title, as well.) Gawd. Was there literally nothing on TV to watch?

Oh geez.......this hateful bigoted line again......

Why do these ugly things always seem to emanate from the right?

Phydeaux -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/23/2014 12:54:59 AM)

Because you think shit that originates from the left smells of gum drops and fairytales.

Duh.

Don't worry it's only 1% who really wants this, right?[:D]

Just checked yesterday and the West has always stole from arabs, so the war is coming. We invade them they invade us. Simple pimple.

And 59 you're right, just look at the pic I don't see the left do you?[:D]

That must be a Jersey thing ... That's not a national mandate.

crazyml -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/23/2014 2:27:58 AM)

I think you may be unfamiliar with the tone and stance of the UK papers.

The Law society cannot enshrine anything in English law. Only Parliament can do that. The law society has issued guidance to ensure that the terms of wills properly reflect the intention of the person making the will.

We have a lot of freedom in terms of how we leave or money, and who we leave it to.

In Britain, a person can disinherit all of their children and leave every penny to the cat.

A will can require that a person only inherit if they have a tattoo removed.

A will can require that a male heir get breast implants before he inherits.

I'm afraid that you may have been an unwitting victim of the Islamophobia that some parts of our media like to tout.

I hope this sets your mind at rest.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/23/2014 2:41:57 AM)

We've already had the 'mucha hideen' thread.

@PeonForHer, Yachtie's responses to DomKen indicate they are clearly susceptible to being manipulated by the media especially where the UK is concerned, but the good news is at least they can post a link highlighting their naivete.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Bye Bye Britain (3/23/2014 2:50:11 AM)

Actually it is in the US. In community property states, your spouse automatically owns half the marital assets. You can do whatever you want with your half, but regardless of what you put in your will, you cannot disinherit a spouse. This appliies to marital property and assets.

I can't post links from my phone but feel free to google it.

Yes.... but.... but.... people making their will in accordance with their own religious beliefs and values? Surely this is unprecendented.[8|]

Lmafao..... get back to me when you understand the word "enshrined", let alone "Sharia Law".

There is nothing new here that hasnt already been spoken about, mediation courts already exist for the Jewish community in the UK, but you knew that right ?
