Kevin Sorbo speaks on something I touched upon, not too long ago.

I think it's interesting that if a Christian plumber in East Jesus, Ohio refused to employ someone because they weren't a church goer, there'd be a shit-storm.

Apparently, this is S.O.P. in Hollywood.

quote:

ORIGINAL: From the article

Alonso, who apparently supports Donnelly’s anti-illegal immigration views, was scheduled to perform in a Spanish-language version of The Vagina Monologues in February at the Brava Theater Center in San Francisco’s Mission District, but a political backlash ended that for her. Apparently some of her vulgar language in the ad turned people off, too.

Producer Eliana Lopez told the local CBS News affiliate that “We really cannot have her in the show, unfortunately. Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe.” Added Jim Salinas, a local Democrat official: “We don’t act like that. First of all, that is not a typical Latina.” But prominent San Francisco Latino Republican Leo Lacayo countered that “It was a political ad, it was a funny ad. That anybody would lose employment over what their political leanings are is absurd.”

Bullshit. There are several prominent and successful Republican and Christian actors. Bruce Willis seems to be doing fine.

Kevin is whining because he can't compete.

Works for Chuck Norris, Kelsey Grammer, Robert Duvall, Ben Stein, Gary Sinise, Jon Voight, and Clint Eastwood.

Google it and you'll find many more.

If Hollywood was afraid then we wouldn't be having this outpouring of religious movies. Five biblical movies coming out this year alone:

Hollywood produces what sells and what people want.Period.

They are one of the post popular and most ingratiating of all American exports to the world and one reason why America is as popular as it is..

They also don`t take any government welfare and the they pay their taxes.....unlike so many American corporations....

If  the "Christian" right wants to make films, nothing is stopping them.......and NO ,Hollywood isn`t stopping them either.

The market is though......

Where did this false equivalency narrative start.....?

No....conservatives ARE NOT entitled to a share of the media larger that the one they can capture in the market place.

There are certainly a lot of fucking pathetic whiners though who do.

While I sympathize with Sorbo, there's much here with which I disagree.

When an actor/actress takes a stand that threatens to drive away the core audience of a particular production what choice does the producer have but to fire them (speaking here of Alonso).

I personally have refused for 40 years to go see anything with Jane Fonda in it.
And I hopenever to see anything with Zane or Busey in it after Valley of the Wolves: Iraq.

Speaking out purely on matters of faith is less controversial to me, usually. Lopez, Seagal, K Reeves... buddhist. Who cares?

Really?
Perhaps you should check the take from his movie... God's Nod Dead
Or you could check his career... IMDB
He seems pretty busy to me.

But to deny Hollywood slants left is to call PMSNBC objective.

Owner59 -> RE: I KNEW There Was A Reason I Liked Kevin (3/24/2014 6:30:12 AM)

Well......who`s fault is it that homophobia is so unpopular?

I hear the lunatic fringe is claiming "religious persecution" because they can`t get away with naked homosexual bigotry anymore......One of the reason they "want to take the country back"....[8|]

Who`s fault is it that a popular cook show host happily used the n-word and was shunned for it?

Somehow(it`s because they are dupes)....someway.....the right has conflated 1st amendment rights with private companies that produces media products.....thinking they have a right to say what they want on someone else`s program.

I suppose they are correct that they`d be winning the media/culture war or doing better if the had control of the media or Hollywood.Doesn`t take a roket-surgeon to figure that out.

But our`s is a market place of ideas.....free ideas that are born and grow out of freedom`s foundation.

And the 'internetz' has made it all but impossible for a few concentrated media giants to control what we see and hear or what`s possible.

So until rightist media attracts the consuming public based on the merits or interest.......theyt aren`t going to be abale to do much more that whine about how fair the world is.....

MrRodgers -> RE: I KNEW There Was A Reason I Liked Kevin (3/24/2014 6:34:53 AM)

What is unclear here is whether or not the show was in financial straights because of her political stance and her going public about them in any way.

The question remains as it always seems to, were ticket sales suffering because as is the case with most teapartiers, she was spouting lies about the Cal. economy and immigration policy in particular and maybe the US economy and immigration policy in general ? The rest is merely conversation.

She does have a right to free speech but does anyone have a right to use their place in a very public business for hire...to espouse that speech ?

Seems to me that the producers also remain free by contract to replace her and there usually are clauses for such dismissal.

Slants left wasn't the claim -- it was that this is SOP in Hollywood. It's not.

What some call "homophobia" (i.e. a simple belief that homosexual acts are sinful) is unpopular only to a few, at least according to the continued success of the Duck Commander.
The "rightist media" has no problem attracting and holding an audience. Have you compared numbers for, say Fox News and PMSNBC? Or Hannity and... anybody? Maddow, perhaps?

Yes, the internet has made it all but impossible for a few media giants to control what we see and hear. Gone are the glory days of such liberal giants as NBC and CBS. Instead we have the ascendancy of such sites as Drudge and Beck.....
God, how liberals hate the passing of their monopoly on the news...

Po tah toe.

I'm not sure even that it was claimed "this is SOP in Hollywood".
First, define "this".

Freedom of association is one of the most sacred and defended freedoms in this country.....

The rightie-whiners are saying that "Hollywood"(ANY PRIVATE COMPANY making media products [8|]) is obligated to hang with them and help them make right-wing propaganda, even if they don`t want to....

Other wise they`re gonna cry and blubber......[sm=river.gif]

I`d love to see billow o`really`s reaction when told he needs to work with Michael Moore........to make it seem fair....[sm=rofl.gif]

Ummm....their ratings tanked......

Are there a few PsOS left to watch?

Yeah.....So?

If this is true.......why all the blubbering about free speech from half-wit sarah palin?

Then you should read the OP, which states "this is SOP in Hollywood."

And you wonder why I don't take your arguments seriously.

Owner59 -> RE: I KNEW There Was A Reason I Liked Kevin (3/24/2014 7:04:44 AM)

It could be that older white Christian republican men believe that Hollywood belongs to them and they`re entitled to control it.....the same way the think they own America and everything in it and are untitled to exclude others.

Whose ratings tanked? CBS? MSNBC? Yes, and yes.

Are there still a few PoS left to watch?
Well, yes, there are.
Maddow... 37
Edshow.... 81
Sharpton... 112
Source

Anderson Cooper in fact does get good numbers; he's a funny guy and sometimes kinda sorta balanced
But the straight-up libs are failing badly

truckinslave -> RE: I KNEW There Was A Reason I Liked Kevin (3/24/2014 7:12:38 AM)

My apologies.
I practically skipped the OP to read the actual Sorbo piece......

Musicmystery -> RE: I KNEW There Was A Reason I Liked Kevin (3/24/2014 7:15:32 AM)

The Sorbo piece doesn't say anything. It's a whine without incidences or specifics or cause or evidence or any of the other elements of an argument.

Owner59 -> RE: I KNEW There Was A Reason I Liked Kevin (3/24/2014 7:15:41 AM)

Down 20% from the opening......

That`s down....FYI.

But you can play make pretend....it`s one of your American freedoms....

How about the poor soul who liked to say the n-word?

You can pretend the rightwing didn`t piss and moan.....no biggie....proceed.
