jlf1961 -> Simple answers to baffling questions. (3/25/2014 6:40:32 AM)

Why was Stonehenge built?

It is really quite simple, a bunch of stone age people got together, came up with the idea to fuck with future generations, and built Stonehenge.

It was their April fools joke to the world.

Anyone else have a baffling question that needs answered?

Stonehenge... bronze age religious calendar. <grin>

Now what I want to know is how the ancient Egyptians were able to make beryllium bronze implements (found in Tutankhamen's tomb) that we can only refine really intense high tech refining processes.

If you aren't familiar with beryllium bronze alloy, it is harder than steel and does not create sparks. Commonly found in (expensive) spark proof tools for working on pipe carrying flammable liquids and gasses. It also makes great edged weapons that don't corrode in seawater. (Yes, stainless steel rusts like crazy in seawater)

The same aliens that helped them build the pyramids helped them with their metal refining.

jlf1961 -> RE: Simple answers to baffling questions. (3/25/2014 4:50:45 PM)

Why do aliens travel all the way across the galaxy and steel cows?

To make Texas BBQ of course!

kdsub -> RE: Simple answers to baffling questions. (3/25/2014 4:55:37 PM)

Nope as proven in..."Invasion of the Saucer Men " they came to inject cows with alcohol through their fingernails...damn don't you know anything!

The superstitious dang fools trying to sneak up on them with the belief that if you look between a cat's ears you can see the unseen; like the ghosts the cat is watching.

There are a lot of theories surrounding it, quite fascinating to see, but actually just one of many stone circles in the UK, most people overlook the Avebury Circle nearby, which is part of the whole Stonehenge monument, which is much much bigger than most people know

The funny thing is that now druids and pagans worship there, while druids most likely had very little to do with it, simply because at that time there weren't any Celts around, they came to the Island about 1000 years later...

Yes there are a lot of theories concerning Stonehenge, however, if you stop to think about it, the fact that no one has figured it out, it stands to reason I am correct and it is the Ultimate Practical Joke ever played.

As early as 10,500 years ago three large pine posts, which were totem poles of sorts, were erected at the site. Then around 5,500 years ago two earthworks known as Cursus monuments were erected, the longest of which ran for 1.8 miles (3 km). The purpose of these structures is unknown.

In that case, they really were planning ahead and put in a hell lot of work, I would have thought in those times they were far more concerned with mundane stuff like survival, gods not throwing thunderbolts at them and stuff like that...

Why are high notes called 'high' and low notes called 'low'?

For the same reason that the first guy to make and sail a canoe had to come up with a whole new vocabulary to deal with boats and confuse the shit out of everyone else.

In other words, just to be difficult.

High notes are higher frequency than low notes. Each pure note is a precise frequency.

This one always blows my mind. How/why do prisoners get time off for good behavior? [:-]
