Status: offline 		And being the cruel person that I am, I will give the bad news first.

The north American continental plate is splitting apart. This will cause volcanic rifts to open up and flood large portions of the US under flood basalt. This is occurring along the Rio Grande Rift. We have proof of the fissure volcanic eruptions in the Valley of Fire in New Mexico where the area flooded with lava 5400 years ago.

The good news is the the plate wont finish splitting in two for at least 18 million years, but you can expect periodic volcanic activity before then.
