(Waits until April Fool's Day is over before posting, lol.) It was in the low to mid seventies today, and the break from all the bitter cold weather was nice. My leg is very swelled up from a lot of driving and sitting so I spent most of the day in bed to keep it elevated. I'm probably going to have to use that dratted Ace bandage on my foot to help the lymph fluid drain out. (This is what happens to a limb when cancerous lymph nodes were surgically removed.) I have to keep computer time very short until the swelling goes down...on days like this I wish I had a laptop instead of this desk top computer, so I could enjoy online time while sitting on the couch with my leg elevated. I wanted to do some sewing while bo was across the street taking care of his mother, BUT the dratted cutting wheel I bought at Walmart didn't work. Now that I'm home I bought a good one, a Fiskars (costs twice as much as the cheap one) but I can't because I left my cutting board on bo's pool table. The kittens (and momma cat) we adopted are growing up...the two girls who were in her tummy while the prior batch nursed are teeny tiny, even at eight months of age. The boys from the first batch are ENORMOUS. At least 16 lbs. Though I wanted to keep the girls on kitten chow for their first year, the obesity of three other cats has forced me to get normal calorie adult cat chow for everyone instead. I bought another Action Replay this month, this time for my Nintendo 3DS, because I'm tired of doing so much "grunt work" for basic (and expensive) supplies within my games. BUT! Aargh! The official site link was an old one and no amount of using their search feature could get me an update. Luckily another Pokemon friend of mine phoned and told me how to search Google and find the new link. I updated...but the machine won't accept the AR cartridge as they used to. She told me that this one would work differently, somehow involving the memory chip in my game machine, but I'll have to wait for her to get off of work to phone me from Oklahoma. (Waiting sucks.) The good thing with my game (Pokemon X) is that while doing Wonder Trades last night...these are blind, anonymous trades with no negotiation of any kind...someone gave me an uber rare "shiny" Pokemon! Yay! It's still a hatchling so I get to enjoy raising it. The box of books I mailed to my ex-husband arrived and he is very excited about getting his hands on the cheese making books...and (biblical) stories he heard as a small child from his grandmother. Every page has very detailed art work and his kids now get to hear stories that their grandmother and great grandmother (both deceased) used to read to their father. I got three full boxes of books out of my house this month. Yay me! A friend of mine who recently relocated to Florida (he thought he was just there to visit with his adult son and family, but his slave phoned to tell him not to come home) wants my slave to drive his stuff from WV to Florida. bo's brain injury would make him nod off at the wheel after 2-3 hours, he is NOT up to anything like that and I thought our friend would know this about us after these past several years. I could do it easily. I love driving. However, Mapquest says that the gas would be over $300 (1,500 mile round trip). My minivan is over 20 years old and only gets 17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on freeways. The friend can only come up with $200 and thinks it's plenty. Normally I would leap at a chance to go to Florida since mom and I haven't been there since before my aunt died (she had two time share condos and would give us one of her weeks sometimes, or else we would be invited to go during the same week she was going). We can't do motels and my knees won't let me sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag anymore. I'm still trying to juggle in my mind somehow pulling this off, but I would have to buy some tow truck type insurance (AAA?), and...this was so sudden I didn't have time to save up in case my vehicle needed some work or we had to order a part. Mom and I used to split the cost of trips and I'm giving her a chance to pull a rabbit out of her hat. I admit...that my friend's house...has bedbugs. A heavy infestation. bo's house caught them from our friends and we got rid of them with only one box of diatomaceous earth. It took three months before they were all gone. I want to help our friend out but I had to warn my mother about this and offer some possible solutions, as well as offering to take complete responsibility for making sure her apartment doesn't get bugs. I am thinking of using outdoor garbage bags, each dusted with DE, and double bagged. Also, the entire inside of my minivan dusted with DE before I even pick up his stuff. Leaving his stuff in a car/minivan, parked in the hot sun for a few days would kill all the bugs, especially if we do this in Florida where it's hotter than WV. It would be taken to his son's house, the friend lives with the son and is aware of the bedbugs. My vehicle has four new tires and is working fine, and I haven't checked how much leeway I have on my credit cards. I haven't yet asked my friend if mom and I can be guests in their home for four or five days (there might not be extra beds). If I got into bad trouble with my vehicle, if I were around Orlando...my ex-husband lives there and is a master mechanic. I am still thinking this over. If I hadn't let bo spend so much money on chain mail these past few months, Florida would't be an issue. If I can't do this right now, bo could store the stuff for him in one of his sheds. We can kill all the bugs through putting stuff in the deep freezer for days, through DE, etc., and then I guess we can start mailing boxes. I do not want to wait till summertime to drive it all to Florida. I hate Florida in summertime when it's hotter than hades. As a vacation, I would rather go camping at the national park near Myrtle Beach. Mom needs me to take her to the next town over to see about something with her hearing aid. Then I will have to take her about two hours away, early in the morning (please somebody shoot me; I'm a night owl) to take her to a place where she can get affordable dental work done. She has replaced implants three times now, to the tune of $2,000 to $4,000 each time, and the same darned "teeth" came out AGAIN. This place does payments on a sliding scale, whatever that means. I'm having a lot of trouble skinnying down my book collection. I want to keep everything but made a new year's resolution to get rid of book storage crates...that the books I keep must fit on my book cases. I have two shelves full of different bible versions, encyclopedia sets, etc., as well as too many Chicken Soup books, and yet I've found some more in a crate and now I need to somehow make it fit onto these two shelves. Aargh! I don't know what to get rid of and every time I put something into a give-it-away box, I end up changing my mind and rescuing it. If I can just manage to pry one or some of them out of my hands, the nearby nursing homes would appreciate them. I've got six or eight last crates of books to sort through (to see if anything in there is easy for me to give away, lol) before I'm going to stack just six crates of them against one wall for later assimilation, so I can get these off of a table in the storage room. Within the next two weeks I am determined that that table is getting out of my house (or at least into my basement). This warm weather is making me want to start pulling weeds and start some seedlings growing in my house. I want...some pretty sunflowers this year, and a pumpkin patch. I still don't have my indoor greenhouse (bought it at Walmart on sale) started yet. The hold up? Getting it some grow lights set into a board behind it, and cat proofing it (the plastic surrounding it is pitiful, my cats are laughing at it already). I bought some cheap, back of a door style mirrors to help blockade cats from entering the sides and to help spread the light around so I won't have to keep turning the plants around to keep their growth balanced. I want several types of lettuce (buttercrunch, romaine, ones with colors), some herbs (curly leafed parsley and chives and garlic), and some northern lights swiss chard. If there's room, maybe some spinach. Someday I want a room in my basement converted into a greenhouse, a place safe from cats, so I can grow my own tomatoes (the green leaves are poisonous to cats) and whatever else square foot type gardening can produce. It's going to be fun seeing what can grow well and what can't. Oh, and I want some dwarf trees in half barrels...like a lemon tree, a lime, and maybe figs. In my wildest dreams I'd also like to try my hand at some aquaponics... (In the meantime, I bought two books on it.) I ordered some cheap used DVDs from Amazon to replace some of my old and mostly Disney cartoon movies on VHS. I'm trying to make all of my movies fit on their shelves too, and DVDs take up less space than VHS tapes. Anyway, they goofed up my Tarzan & Jane DVD. Sent the right box but inside...was a CD disk of one song from the Disney movie Tarzan. I'm getting a refund but can't send off for a new Tarzan & Jane for another month or two, when I buy another lot big enough to get me free shipping (super saver blah blah blah). One of the DVD disks I sent off for had all three K-9 movies (K-9, K-911, and K-9 P.I.), which means that the nursing home will be getting a donation of three VHS movies soon. DVDs will take 1/2 inch of shelf space instead of 3 inches, yay! I also picked up Disney's classic Robin Hood for $5...instead of paying $15 for it at Walmart. I wish that some of you who knit...lived nearby so I could give away a bag or two of my yarn. The friend I was giving them to had to move over 8 hours away. I bought some new bernaise (sp?) yarn at the Dollar Tree that made me take a dislike to this other brand of fuzzy yarn I'd bought at the Dollar Tree several years before. I am physically incapable of throwing it away and have to find a way to re-home it, lol. I wanted to replace some of our old board games because their (bought used) boxes were BLECH after all of these years and moves and storage damage, BUT...the Mouse Trap game I saw at Walmart was nothing like the one we have that I wanted to replace. Foiled again. I am also trying to part with some of my old chess game collection...yep, I just had to have me one of almost every type imaginable. I used to have a lot of kids coming to my old apartment to play board games, and so I have several of each variety when it comes to plastic and frosted glass. The nursing homes would not appreciate glass... Besides, almost nobody in WV seems to know how to play chess. I guess I'll have to tape some up and donate them to a second hand store (cringes). (I even have a shot glasses checkerboard set, lol, that I am NOT getting rid of.) Our last MAsT meeting was lovely. The host had a drop dead gorgeous new house she's renting and I was like...wow wow wow. I could shrivel up and die with envy...over the kitchen cabinets alone.
