Yes you will fit in the clique just perfectly.
Sarcasm, as there is no clique. I just couldn't help myself.
Welcome!!!
Hope to see you posting.

Chwilfrydig -> RE: Comment on this site (4/12/2014 6:14:02 PM)

Thank you! Sarcasm, irony, puns, veiled references, off-beat humor - it all works for me. And I love, love, love the "more cowbell" skit. One of SNL's best, IMO.

My style of posting may take a little getting used to. [sm=hewah.gif]

Hello Chwilfrydig, and indeed killer name!
i have been here a for a little while and tend to lurk more than i post. My experience is most here on this side have very insightful, charming, compassionate and spot on input. When things tend to get a tad serious someone while interject a bit of humor... no matter if its in Your face, snarky, dark or dry.... it never fails to make me lierally laugh out loud! Rarely have i seen a poster get dogpiled for being a balloon-head, nevertheless i'm sure its happened.
From what You posted so far, i imagine You will mesh quite well and i look forward to reading more of Your posts!

Chwilfrydig -> RE: Comment on this site (4/12/2014 8:36:24 PM)

YES! I have laughed out loud here so many times, and I am a complete sucker for anyone or anything that does that for me. When the link to 'tap tap tap' was recently reposted, I started laughing so hard I had to go out on the deck just to get my breath back. I'm sure my neighbors thought I was a loon, sitting out in the dark laughing by myself.

Cheers, and thanks for the kind words.

GreedyTop -> RE: Comment on this site (4/13/2014 2:25:39 AM)

Hiya! DO you mind if I call you Chilifry? That's what my fingers keep trying to type LOL

:D

Chwilfrydig -> RE: Comment on this site (4/13/2014 9:15:46 AM)

Hi Greedy,

Chili fries - there's a food I haven't had in a looong time. I never expected to be posting when I chose Chwilfrydig, so Chili Fry is fine by me. It'll save me having to cut and paste my own login when I need to type it (which is what I just did).

One of the exile members called it Alphabet soup, and thought I was a sock puppet, LOL. That's when I decided to add the meaning to my sig line.

My avatar picture is a beautifully carved jester doll (not a puppet) I got fifteen years ago in NJ. If my place caught fire, I'd grab him and my kitten. And my laptop. Yes, I am a cat lady Internet junkie with a doll who once ate chili fries.

Nice to meet you!

ETA - misplaced comma there...the doll hasn't eaten chili fries, I have. His mouth won't open or I'd certainly have offered him some. [;)]

GreedyTop -> RE: Comment on this site (4/13/2014 10:47:32 AM)

I like you :)

(and I saw your posts over there - as well as the opinion that you're a sock. I don't agree, but even if you were, you'd be an AMUSING sock which is far and away better than an annoying, dipshit sock :) )

and....

YAY FOR INTERNET CAT LADIES!!! (bonus if you're a Whovian!!!)

There's a clique. I think it's best to stop pretending that there isn't.

Greta75 -> RE: Comment on this site (4/13/2014 10:57:44 AM)

FR
Pitchforks usually comes out only if OP was responding negatively to well-meaning advice. In this case, OP was as nice as most of us. So why wouldn't she get anything but kindness?
I gotta agree that people only pick on the hostile, but never notice or acknowledge the equally present nicer threads where the OP didn't get offended by honest different opinions of different members.

There are also some hostile threads that has 50% nice responders, who gets completely ignored while the focus was just solely on the ones who were perceived as nasty.

Chwilfrydig -> RE: Comment on this site (4/13/2014 11:43:28 AM)

As long as I'm amusing and not offensive, I'll be a happy camper.

My biggest problem (and why I never posted before) is that funny replies are usually the first to pop into my head. I was raised this way - my family handles the direst of events with humor. No matter what happens to us, somehow we turn it into a funny story. We have no problem revealing idiotic mistakes we've made and laughing at ourselves. And we have a backlog of legendary pranks we've played on each other.

For example, my post to the anal-string guy...my thought process was this: from lurking so much I've come to feel sorta sorry for these guys. No one wants to answer their actual question because it would be providing wank fodder. As soon as I read his post, all sorts of string ideas came to me and I figured, why not? He asked (IMO) an inappropriate question so I answered it my way. Later I kind of regretted being humorous, but then he returned and thanked me. So I tried to help him without the humor, and without listing sixteen more Fun Things To Do With String. I don't wanna be known as Wank Fodder Gal around here <grin>.

This thread is now unlocked. Please keep in mind the Terms of Service and Guidelines as well as this new update.

FR~

I feel very relaxed after my shampoo and blow dry. It was like having a complimentary spa day.

Since this thread turned into my semi-official introduction to people, I'm glad it's back up. [sm=hello.gif]

Tim Gunn saying "make it work" keeps running through my head.

GreedyTop -> RE: Comment on this site (4/14/2014 9:30:29 AM)

ok, now I hate you. I haven't been able to have a spa-like shampoo and blow dry in AGES. LOL Somehow, the self- inflicted blow-dry feels more equivalent to a root canal, to me.

Mod3 - question for ya. Having read this thread from the first to last posts prior to the lockdown, I'm afraid I don't understand *why* it was locked - and the update you linked didn't clarify at all, for me.

Throw a monkey a bone, and help me understand?

Hee hee, I was talking about the thread cleaning. YOU got a shampoo, too, since you posted here. It was so relaxing you must have drifted into subSPAce and forgot.

GreedyTop -> RE: Comment on this site (4/14/2014 9:41:02 AM)

yeah! Yeah, THAT'S it... (plus I worked last night, haven't been to sleep yet and am - dozy. yeah.)

I like writing limericks. A little birdie told me to write this one. After much deliberation, soul-searching and arguments between my angel & devil sides, I asked my cat and he said "Go for it".

There once was a fellow named Asstick,
Who fancied himself smooth and so slick.
He baits me no end
But I will not bend
Or be pulled into his sad sock schtick.

My thread here has given him jock itch
(or deep down he wants to be my bitch?)
I debated him once -
I'm no longer a dunce
And more would just increase his butt twitch.

Thank you so much for expressing how you feel about that thread.

All too often this side of CM is portrayed as a place where we abuse and traumatize new posters and run them off. That rarely happens unless the poster deserved it.

What does happen and what the members rarely get credit for is when we step forward with good advice and more importantly genuine concern for someone who is experiencing at the very least a great deal of emotional pain.

The thread does have the advantage of a good op who checks in often and clarifies and updates as needed.

Unless the poster deserved it?

Collarchat is never going to grow with people thinking they are the cool police who can go around and "run off" people for asking what (in their OPINION) is a stupid question. Unless someone comes out in the first post as an abusive a-hole, what benefit does it serve to "run them off?"

Does it make you feel good? Superior? Is it fun? Entertaining?

If the person is a troll, why not ignore them and not give them the attention they seek? Because - is it fun to try to match wits and look better? To an audience of whom? For what purpose?

Is there a better and more productive way to handle people who fall flat?

What determines that someone "deserves" to be run off or treated like crap?

Does the awkward kid in high school who dresses wrong and doesn't it, or the person who makes a bad impression at the same high school party "deserve" to be made fun of, bullied? Are they "asking for it" because they are ignorant and not "in the know"?

I see a lot of new posters come in with a question or comment and I can tell what they are trying to say, but they come across very wrong in the way they put it. There's literally no time to save these people before regulars purposely act obtuse to get them to further dig a hole.

I guess these people "deserve" it. I would like to know who sets the guidelines regarding who deserves to be humiliated on a message board. Further, I would like to know what kind of people get enjoyment out of doing it - not just once, but regularly.

It's one thing for these people who fall flat on their face when they post. But it says a lot more about you all who think it's a great time to flame them with glee.

Akasha

That's what it's there for isn't it? [sm=dunno.gif]
