Well there are the posted speed limit signs along the highway between Abilene and where US 83 splits from US 84, which indicates a speed limit of 75.
However, there are numerous private drive ways that open to this stretch of highway and state and country roads cross it as well.
So, 50 yards past the speed limit sign is another sign that warns of cross traffic and sets the speed limit at 60. This pattern continues for about 20 miles.
