FR By the way, I don't want to keep explaining why the caterer cannot cater to the halal folks, AS the halal folks terms and conditions makes it impossible for the caterer to fulfill. My poll is very simple, if this happens year after year in the company you work in, will you feel happy or unhappy? All other possible solutions to make everyone happy has been explored and did not fit the 3 Muslim satisfaction. Actually, the 2 different caterers thingy HAS also been suggested to the Muslims, we were prepared to go to any MUSLIM restaurant of their choice and get their food delivered to where our preferred venue party will be, but the Muslims have rejected our proposal because the venue we are going to is not halal.

Can I just point out, assuming everything Greta has said is the truth and the company is refusing to go to a place that is none halal because they don't want anyone to not turn up. Have you ever considered to just boycott the event? Personally if I don't like the food at a restaurant I just wouldn't go I would make it clear in advance I had no desire to turn up and leave it at that.

--FR-- For one year...JUST one year...cater to the 3 Muslims 100%...and NO ONE else go to the event. Have 99% boycott of the dinner. The next year the company will do more to accommodate the majority, or they will drop the dinner all together. Problem solved.

People here are all trained to practice religious sensitivity and be magnanimous. So if going to a Muslim venue would make the Muslims feel more comfortable, even though they are minority, people would grumble, but will never feel it's big enough of an issue to boycott and make a huge protest.

At this point it seems like Greta is just being bias against Muslims. To have your boycott be noted you only need to boycott it for a reason not for a religious reason ... you have a reason already. As for needing the 99% to boycott it that again is unnecessary ... just get 4 people and then if the company really is doing it to include everyone as you have claimed Greta then they will be willing to move it to a halal resturant because there is no point having it somewhere specific to get everyone there if there is no way everyone is going to be there.

I brought up my suggestion to rotate it annually. I often voice my displeasure to HR directly, so I DO do something about it. I do not think it's appropriate to incite fellow workers into protesting. That does not feel right to me in any situation. Unless you are talking about abusive working conditions.

And they reinstated the non-halal food. That was actually...., an amazing progress for our country. We live in a total different world from you, we are like Israel of South East Asia. Surrounded by Muslim countries. Israel choose to war with them, we choose to let them step all over us and try to make them happy. Recently, Indonesian government glorified Muslim terrorists that have planted bombs in our country to kill our civilians in public areas, by honouring them as war heroes and naming a Navy Ship after them in their honour. This is how they always treat us. And we just always turn the other cheek.

Everywhere I ever worked with employees of mixed religion, the events were catered, with meals provided to fit the desires of the Jewish employees, as well as Muslim. As for Halal dining establishments, I have yet to find one with sub standard food, and the lack of alcohol is no big deal, unless you happen to have a dependency problem, then you dont need to be drinking anyway.

Then you lied all the way at the start of the thread. You claimed it had nothing to do with them being Muslim but about the company wanting to include everyone. Can I just point out your issue with this whole thing is that it is the one company sponsored night where you don't have to pay for anything ... but if the food is bad ... if there is no alcohol ... the only reason you're there is because of your work friends and surely you could just have a night out with them somewhere you would enjoy as much as you would enjoy the night with your friends.

I said that, they wanted everybody included, and the only people who have issues are the Muslims, so we have to cater to their whims to make sure they don't feel excluded when we choose a venue that they feel it's against their religion to enter. My Poll was simple, if people felt unhappy like me, or it does not bother them. That's all. You guys are bringing in alot of irrelevant things into my poll, base on your own country and culture that could be an alternative solution possibly in your country, which is different from mine.

As for your point of view, it boils down to the Muslim employees are not entitled to the same things as the rest because they dont drink, they dont eat certian foods, and dont dance. After reading your posts, I would have to say, for me, show up or dont, I am sure no one is going to care. Since it has been going on for sometime evidently, and it is only a few that dont like the system, and majority rules. So you have some choices, go, dont go, or find a job that does not have Muslims, Jews or any other religion with dietary restrictions.

Find a catering hall where the bar is in another room. Have a halal caterer set up a buffet table for foods the Muslims can eat, and if it's well made, a lot of the non-Muslims will gravitate to it also. I don't believe that all Halal caterers serve poor quality food. It's not the case here. But I'd vote against free flowing alcohol to begin with because I don't like drunks. I had no trouble tailoring the menu for my son's bar mitzvah so there were no pork products, no shellfish, and no mixing of meat and dairy. The caterer worked with me and was fine substituting smoked salmon for a shrimp appetizer.
