You are aware that once one amendment is repealed, others can follow just as easily.

We repealed the 18th Amendment (prohibition) in 1933, and the republic seems to have survived.

From whom did that excuse come? I've never been told why I was excused from a jury, but perhaps it varies by state.

Honestly, your sober, careful, rational analysis of the problem looks to me as ridiculous as the pro-gun folks.

I didn't say I had one. I just called for such analyses to be valued once again.

This from the guy that said I might start shooting children because they mistake me for Santa?

Musicmystery -> RE: What if it wasn't a gun? (4/16/2014 6:37:41 PM)

Let's face it . . . "Janie's got a knife" just wouldn't have the same impact.

I did *not* say that, JLF. That is a foul lie.

I actually said you *should* shoot children if they mistake you for Santa, as you well know. I've always thought you a bit weak and lily-livered for failing in that duty, frankly.

jlf1961 -> RE: What if it wasn't a gun? (4/16/2014 7:01:23 PM)

First I like kids.

I take my grandkids out to the state park and other places to see deer, buffalo and long horn cattle.

I am in the market for a new pickup, so I take my 2 year old great nephew with me. He likes to go bye bye with his uncle so a truck has to suit him as well as me.

I dress as Santa for the local children's home and the family Christmas party.

Telling me I should shoot children is, frankly, just more than a bit stupid.

As for gun control, I would love it if mental health records were made part of the back ground checks, as well as all violent offenses in all states.

Honesty you're asking me about an event that was more than 10 years ago. Someone in the hallway during a break told me that. It was not one of the "civilians" but I can't tell you who it was.

You seem to have remembered the "I was too smart for jury duty" part just fine. [:)]

"Someone in the hallway" sounds more like courthouse scuttlebutt than an official reason, which is what I was wondering.

This thread is politically driven and has nothing to do with what happened at that party. The OP and those that support him, do not give one flying fuck of those killed in that horrible moment. Its all politically motivated to 'get even' with a similar post on 'what if it was a gun?'

Leaving aside your claim to mind-reading abilities, did you raise the same objection to that other thread?

K.

Uh, don't you think that sort of remark would be more memorable than.... say... "What'd you get for lunch yesterday?" And it wasn't that I was too smart. It's that I was too engineer-ey. If you want a different term, I was too fact-based.

Might be. I sure as hell doubt anyone wrote that down anywhere as an official reason even if it was true. All I can tell you is that I heard it twice. So now you're gonna want me to get specific about the other time that was even more than the admittedly rough 10 year ago time frame. Can't tell you anything about that... not even the exact wording. I just know I filed the second comment away as a continuation of the first.

I'll also note that I have never served on a jury despite being both able and willing and never once claiming any sort of exemption or in any way trying to evade my civic responsibility.

Kirata come on now, you know that pro gun threads are politically motivated anti gun threads
are public spirited.
Just like when a anti gunner is offended it means they have been insulted,
when a pro gunner is offended it means they are whining.
Don't you understand liberal-speak yet?

You're fuckin' A right on that, Bubba. As long as the gundiots keep flinging (the right sort) of dead kids out to push their political (or hobbyist) agendas, you'll find folks like me sticking other killings right back into their faces. It's a free speech thing.

Relax. My interest in the subject really isn't all that consuming. I was just curious about whether the comments were more than speculation.

Yes think God it is harder for insane kids to get a Bushmaster .223 caliber– model XM15-E2S in Canada ...or there may have been 30 dead instead of 5.

Kids can't get them legally here.

I'm just not a fan of .223, Butch. I like the 7.62x39 round a lot better (especially when I can just walk in to the hardware store and buy 1000 rounds, instead of hunting all over the valley to round up 60 shots).

Now for a knife, I'm a switchblade guy. The sound is just as distinctive as the action of a pump shotgun (though you can still open it silently, if circumstances dictate stealth), easy to carry in a pocket, and being able to hold what you need to cut with the other hand while you open it can be a lifesaver.

kdsub -> RE: What if it wasn't a gun? (4/16/2014 8:50:20 PM)

It worked pretty good at Sandy Hook though...We are something are we not... taking tragedies like these and turning them into gun arguments.

Not calling you out anymore than I... we are both just pitiful.

Butch

Speak for yourself, Butch. I process tragedy in the way that works for me, and I refuse to kiss the asses of those who do it differently and want to insist they are following the one true way.
