SOme of you may recall that I am a HUGE fan of the USAF Thunderbirds (for those unaware of the T-Birds, they are a Flight Demonstration team - like the Blue Angels. BUt they're Air Force, so they're better :) Not that I am biased, or anything...).

Here is an AWESOME vid taken in 2012, at Nellis AFB, Nevada. It's long (almost an hour) but SO worth watching if you enjoy precision flying!

Ok, here is the correct link:

Greedy, if you happen to be back up Marietta way when the Blue Angels come back, I go sit with mom and dad at the cemetary and have a great view. If that don't freak ya out, you can join me. It is an awesome seat!

I crack up at the folks that get run off, they pull up in vans and have blankets and picnic baskets and just choose a random grave to sit on-lolol. Here comes the folks that run the cemetery, asking is that a family member? They say no and they have to git.

I LOVE JET NOISE! I just watched the whole video with the volume cranked up as loud as I could get it.

When I lived in Virginia Beach, we were less than two miles from Oceana Naval Air Station, and directly under their normal flight training path. I never lost the thrill of hearing and seeing them.

When the F-14 Tomcats were retired, I was lucky enough to see a one of the final fly-bys, I think 22 of them. It made me cry - the Tomcats are my personal favorite. When the Blue Angels came for the annual air show, we sat out on our patio the day before and watched them practice for hours right over our heads.

This video is spectacular! I especially liked the first 15 minutes, showing them preparing for flight, with the wonderful close-ups of the jets, pilots and ground crew.

If you think I go on about cats, just get me started on jet fighters!

Thank you, Greedy

I always loved watching them, the sound, the sight, amazing. I used to go to the airshow every year mainly to see them. Unfortunately the airport by me stopped having airshows a few years ago. Don't have time to watch the video now but will be watching it later.

My sister and her hubby keep an RV down there every summer, and I know exactly what you're talking about, I saw them, too! The one that touched me was when they were practicing the one where one jet veers off into the heavens, which is the one they do at a military funeral :( That one was sad, but still really cool to watch.

Hi windchymes,

Yes, that one is very moving.

I love the sneak pass. Sometimes I miss a maneuver 'cause I'm looking the other way, waiting for that surprise jet to roar in from outta nowhere.

I was living in VA Beach during the big stink over the noise, when there was serious talk about moving the jet training to Florida. I had "I <heart> Jet Noise" stickers all over my car just to irritate the anti-noise folks. I mean, HELLO - you buy a house next to Oceana, and then complain about the noise?

Plus the fact that anyone who is willing to take a bullet for my freedom gets ALL of my respect, and can make all the damn noise they want or need to.

We call that "noise" the sound of freedom.

I'm fortunate to have spent my career around one of the few loves of my life, aircraft.
One of my fondest memories is riding in the T-Bird caravan from their hotel to the Wilkes Barre airport to spend time with my brother and watch the show. I will never forget the look on my children's faces when their uncle took them up the ladder and set them his bird. Priceless!

*sigh* Mom is leaving in about an hour to head to Barksdale. She'll be there tomorrow. Her buddy is a damned good photographer, so hopefully there will be awesome photos next week.

He has to be. Hard to get good pics of flybys at airshows unless someone really knows their stuff. I prefer classic warbirds, but alas, they're all getting long in the tooth and are being grounded. Jets are okay, but after living near Hill AFB, the sound of 100% run ups gets old.

I actually have some decent shots of them - taken with an EOS 20D (and no training for high speed shots). I got lucky, I know. BAck in the early 90s, I lived in Smyrna, GA - literally in the flight path of one of the runways off Dobbins NAS/AFR. Mom and I would run outside like maniacs when the Navy jets would use that runway! It wasn't uncommon to be able to actually see the pilots, they were so low.

Neither of us have tired of the sound and visuals.

It's one of the reasons I like where I am now - occasionally I get flights from PArris Island. Got a couple of half decent pics.

I need an in with a military photog, dammit.

Years ago I worked at the Mark Singleton Body Shop that was right at the end of the runways on 41. The first time one was taking off low, I dove under the desk-lolol. I'll never forget my boss looking at me like I was batshit crazy and sayin well if ya think that desk is gonna protect ya from a crashing plane, good luck.
