Top here. What kind of care or attention needs to be given when playing with a sub with dermal piercings? Specifically, a set of 16 or so on the back. Is it safe to use a flogger? Should I avoid them? I would imagine a few of them are on top of ribs...any danger of fractures?

Not a top so someone with better knowledge of that side will hopefully come along.

I wouldn't have let anyone come near my dermal piercing with a flogger. Too much opportunity for things to catch and get pulled and ripped.
As for broken bones, I would say *probably* not - I would imagine the parts that are actually under the skin are flexible plastic rather than a solid metal bar and I can't picture the metal ends moving in the right way to crack a rib through the skin just with flogger impact. I'd be much more worried about tearing them out or introducing infection.

But I am not a doctor, piercer etc. The person who did the piercing might be a good place to start, if the doctor doesn't know.

Depending on daring and type, floggers are an option.... But personally and as a piercer I'd urge no impact play on microdermals (I'm assuming that's the type of dermal piercings you are talking about as those are most common). While a lot of floggers or other impact tools (to include striking with one's hands) won't snag them, microdermals still have a pretty high rejection rate compared to other piercings .

The rate also varies by the footing type (there are a few currently and more being experimented with as time goes on and the goal of lowering rejection rates is being fought). So risk from striking irritation is pretty unknowable.

As to bone cracking or breaking from a microdermal placement during striking play... Well, you'd have to be hitting hard enough or just wrong to cause that type of physical damage to begin with.

It's lower risk than if you taped a dime to the person and then flogged the area. A microdermal's footing is much smaller and is thinner... The metal footing under the skin in the largest models are about 1-1.5mm in thickness and 6mm in length, with holes in it to allow for tissue growth through it during healing.

Rejection and snagging are your highest risks. You two need to make personal calls on these things.

I've never had a dermal piercing but I agree with this entirely.

I highly doubt any bones would be fractured or scraped unless hard impact play was involved [paddle or cane] or a whip hit that spot juuuuust right, but it's more the risk of things getting ripped on and infected.

It's probably best to stay away from that area. Just to be on the safe side.
