Does it do anything for you? Passive or active, you dont have to believe to be affected by somebodies fear.

mnottertail -> RE: The Fear of God (5/3/2014 6:38:11 AM)

No more afraid of the magic sky wizard than I am of eating mashed potatos, stabbing myself in the tonsils with a fork, and bleeding to death.

thishereboi -> RE: The Fear of God (5/3/2014 6:41:43 AM)

nope, I don't give it a thought. So what are you afraid of?

joether -> RE: The Fear of God (5/3/2014 7:10:35 AM)

And here I thought God was that being to help those out of suffering, hatred, and danger? A powerful force for good and law. One that has deep wisdom on how us humans should live our lives. To be at peace, without war and conflict.

What does such a God gain by being feared by his followers? I can understand his enemies, but those that worship Him?

MrBukani -> RE: The Fear of God (5/3/2014 8:18:58 AM)

Did you never fear the hand of your father knowing you done wrong?

DesFIP -> RE: The Fear of God (5/3/2014 8:21:25 AM)

Not all of us grew up in abusive homes.

Similarly, having grown up in loving atmospheres, we seek that same relationship with the Ineffable One.

chatterbox24 -> RE: The Fear of God (5/3/2014 8:31:22 AM)

No. He was a pussy cat. Never raised his hand to me. But I did come from a divorced home.
All he had to do
Was get loud and that was enough to know.

Blonderfluff -> RE: The Fear of God (5/3/2014 8:38:01 AM)

"Fear" in this context, to me, is NOT the same as being afraid or frightened. Fear of God is more a feeling of awe and reverence.

So my father was abusive?
I thought fear was normal when you know you are doing something wrong.
Like mnotter said.

I can't imagine why God would be afraid, so his fear doesn't affect me either way.

If God were afraid, and I believed God was afraid, that could be a concern. But there's no indication that's the case.

Nope, not afraid of God.

But those god-fearing humans -- they sure can sure scare the bejeezuz out of me.

Sirspassion -> RE: The Fear of God (5/3/2014 4:50:46 PM)

I do not fear God. Those who fear God frighten me with their beliefs.

Some people are smart and look at both sides of the question. Bravo!
