I've never said hard work is the only way to success.

Effort, however, is.

Barriers have been being removed for blacks since Lyndon Johnson signed the equal opportunity and affirmative action laws. The feds were told all the way through the 80's "it's not enough".

In the 2000's, both Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton came out publicly and made vibrantly clear that these grants and unequal access (meaning, allowing those who hadn't earned it a free pass to whatever because the races weren't "balanced" in society and business) was another way "for the white man to keep the black man down".

Women are purportedly "blocked" from some opportunities, yet there are 10's of thousands of female millionaires (the greater percentage of them NOT because of marriage).

A woman with 20 bucks in her pocket and an idea, created a billion dollar company called Spanx, by simply doing nothing more than cutting off the bottom 1/3rd of a pair of panty hose and women across the globe ate it up.

She's not even 40 today.

Don't remember the name but another woman did it with chocolate cookies (so did a black man).

Some white guy decided to make sandwiches....in his garage...they were amazingly awesome sandwiches. He put a piece of plywood and some sawhorses in his garage, mixed up his secret sauce, made a few hundred sandwiches and went around to every business in his area and handed out 2 inch sections of his sandwiches. Jimmy Johns sandwich shops are the fastest growing fast food business in America.

There's a BILLION barricades to success.

Successful people don't worry about climbing over them (or for that matter, worrying about all the whiny ;little babies that see such a tall barricade and demand that it's removed or worse, exclaim until the sun sets to everyone within ear shot that it's tooooo hiiiigh!!!!!").

Successful people shake their collective heads at these people....and simply find the end of the barricade, and walk around it.

There will always be a million readily available reasons why you can't.

When you quit spending inordinate effort proving that to yourselves....you'll discover exactly how you can.

It finally evolved into (but for a few disjointed posters) a discussion about success, devolving back into a discussion that white males can't understand the history of blacks, therefore their struggle to succeed.

Almost all of my posts have been entirely misquoted or misconstrued, nearly all of which come down to:

If you want something....shoot for it. You've got a better chance of hitting it than if you never try.


If you dont have a gun,bullets or sights it is pretty hard to hit any thing except air

That, unfortunately, isn't adequate apparently to assuage those who simply desire to stay right where they are.


It isn't adequate because it fails to address the issue.

(Which works just fine for me....it provides employees).

The ones you claim to pay over scale

As to those who might benefit from the status quo, I, as a lifelong Republican was thrilled about Obamacare (still am in concept, but it needs work), I think the wealthy should pay significantly more, but I also think everyone should pay something

Why do those who have nothing(comparative term) have to pay anything?


(federal income tax....I know, I get it....everyone already pays something....just not federal income tax), I think ALL income should be taxed identically, no special deals for unearned (stocks/real estate) income versus earned income (labor/wages).

As to the USA being a beacon of opportunity, my God....of course it is

Problem is that the beacon is on the other side of a barb wire fence

....and there are billionaires in China too (many of whom did so without any state or governmental influence or advantage).

Where you came from is your good or bad fortune in life, but it is where you begin, by default.

Where you end up is entirely up to you.

That sorta ignores about a million years of history and basic logic.

No one else.

Except those more powerful than yourself.

The ones you claim to pay over scale That would presume we were union, which we are not. What I have said in the past is, my non union employees are paid in excess of what the unions require. I have also said that women in my firm doing the same job as a man, will generally earn MORE than the man because women tend to be far more organized, consistent and their follow through is better on average.

And from the examples I see, it's usually in its strongest form from people who are completely out of control with little to no practical merit. It's not about helping those in need, it's about banding together with other like minded individuals to demand something from the whole that they in no way contribute to in the first place.

I have made no presumption.

which we are not. What I have said in the past is, my non union employees are paid in excess of what the unions require.

Which sorta puts the validity of your need for a labor pool in question. Since you pay so well, no one would want to leave your employ.

It would seem to me that those who use American federally funded ("state expense") road systems, who ever got a subsidized lunch at school, read a book from a library, whoever got a loan backed by the FHA for their home (insured and guaranteed by the feds), buys milk (subsidized by the feds).....etc. would fit the same description so, Yes Thompson...."that" Jack Ma.

Once again, you've just proven my point. Here's a guy who made some very simple, calm posits on the subject we're all discussing, and you have to go all batshit on the guy. If I had just taken 32 hits of the best hallucinogen ever manufactured, and the chemicals were just now taking over my thought processes, I can't even fathom responses such as yours to his post. They make about as much sense as someone coming up and saying "Hello" and your response is "Tuesday". (Which, actually, now that I recall a variety of your posts, for you, does actually make sense).

Special request to the Mods (I know you're busy....when you have time, thank you). I would like to make a personal request that someone goes and reviews ThompsonX's posts for any 2 week period (literally pick one 14 day period in his entire history here...it will be adequate to achieve the goal) and see if you don't agree with me that, his only purpose here is to antagonize, raise the ire of anyone he seems to be in even minor disagreement with (there are even occasions where he goes batshit on people who he just days before....agreed with)....never bringing solutions or offering a better way or help.

His only purpose is to be an antagonist. It's more than clear, being rabid gives the guy a woody.

I would personally request that he is put on permanent "waiting for approval".

Anyone that wants to join me in this effort to achieve a more peaceful (rational) discussion outlet, feel free to tag on to this post, or send your own, privately, requesting similar action.
