OK, let's get to the essential good stuff! Our Condo: Having a full kitchen with blender and coffee maker was great. I made strawberry/mango/yogurt smoothies and got addicted to soy iced-latte w/freshly brewed decaf from the Maui Coffee Company every afternoon after getting out of the water. Huck got the fixings for root beer floats but we didn't get to them and ended up donating the ice cream to the condo staff. Bruch At The Grand Wailea: If you've got stomach space and $50, this is money well spent. The grounds of the Wailea are incredibly beautiful to wander through and hang out in. I promise they made no money on me: I went right for the shrimp, crab, sushi rolls, eggs benedict, baked brioche ham, my favorite brie and creamy gorgonzola, and dessert buffet. They had a coconut and caramel light creme brulee I'm ashamed to say I had 4 of. Hey, they were in tiny tea cups! The strawberry cheesecake and fresh fruit array were also winners. Our wait person kept the mimosas coming (and mixed tropical juices for me). The dining room overlooks the back gardens/fountains, with the pristine beach beyond. Lots of folks were kayaking, snorkeling, and board paddling as we ate. http://wailearesortdining.com/restaurants/grand-dining-room/ Maui Tacos: OMG, this place was so good we did it 2 nights in a row. Huck graciously got our orders to go so I could enjoy dinner on our quiet lanai. Portions were generous, everything fresh and delicious with a tasty salsa bar. My favorite menu item was the chicken mango salad. Since that seems to be the only way I will eat vegetables, I asked Huck not to bother with the little containers and just pour on my favorite salsa combo which was the Aloha Tomato and Pineapple Paradise. https://www.mauitacos.com/menu.htm Monsoon India, Maui Samosas, Kihei Party Night I tried Monsoon's tikka masala chicken. All white meat (my preference) in insanely delicious yogurt curry sauce, with delicious unsalted tender naan. A huge plate to go for $7. I wish we'd had time to go to the restaurant for a sit-down dinner. The ladies selling their homemade samosas were also a highlight. Served with a mango salsa, these were available in veg/non-veg versions for every taste. Delicious. http://www.monsoonindiamaui.com/site/ Denny's, Kihei: Not too exciting, you say? Yes, the food was predictable (I like the chicken, apple and pecan salad) but what made this a special place was the open plantation-style windows. Adorable birds would fly in and out, enjoying whatever made it to the floor. It was like dining in an aviary where the birds were very well-behaved about staying off the tables. Polli's, Makawao: This delicious place was just the ticket to regroup after our arduous Hana attempt on our last day. Excellent chunky salsa. We enjoyed a huge platter of steak and shrimp fajitas served with a generous boat of guacamole, sour cream and shredded cheese. Huck's friend the bartender treated us to refreshing strawberry/mango and tart lime margaritas. There are times I regret not being able to metabolize alcohol and get tipsy, and this was definitely one of them. Brisk and fortifying nonetheless. http://www.pollismexicanrestaurant.com/ Cafe Mambo, Paia: We had a nice, simple breakfast here before leaving for Hana. We got a great table with huge open windows and lots of throw pillows to make the wooden seats/benches comfortable. The cinnamon bread french toast was outstanding, with a nice custard-y middle. The ham/egg/cheese croissant was also delicious. There are lots of tasty items to snack on if you don't want a full breakfast. I'd skip the mango lemonade. With a wood floor and speakers everywhere, it's a little loud with the music up. My foam ear plugs came in handy here and the atmosphere itself was laid back and wonderful. http://www.cafemambomaui.com/ Moose McGillycuddy's, Kihei: Great breakfast place with beautiful views, plants, and tons of pictures of really weird things on every wall, including the toilet stall walls so you can be entertained while you eliminate. Eggs benedict and french toast were yummy, as was the lean ham that came with it. We had a friendly, efficient server who helped us solve our "how can we have it all since we can't make up our minds" problem, very serious in nature. http://moosemcgillycuddys.com/Kihei-Hawaii.html Airports: Meh. Not worth the keystrokes. The snacks we brought were better.
