masmiss -> Mothers Day without the kids? (5/10/2014 4:23:18 PM)

I asked a few friends and co-workers, who are the mothers of adult children, what their Mothers Day plans were. I was surprised to learn that quite a few of them are celebrating without their children. Instead they are going out with a significant other or partying with other Moms. The reason was that adult siblings tend to bicker and argue when they're together and this ruins any family get-together especially for Mom. The Moms just want fun and peace on their special day. I'm not a mother so this kind of sentiment was a surprise to me.

So, I'm wondering. What are the mothers of adult kids on these forums planning for Mothers Day? Do all your adult kids get along well enough that you can all enjoy a meal out together or would you rather just stay away from the headaches your kids tend to bring on?

Mine are both working from 7:30 AM till 9:30PM for my daughter and till 11:00PM for my son.

If they were off, since it's nice weather, we'd probably barbecue.

The Man and I are contemplating packing a picnic lunch and going up to the lake for the day if we're feeling well. The downside is that this state park doesn't have real bathrooms, just port-a-potties.

My adult sons get along great but we won't be spending Mother's Day together and I won't be spending it with my mom either, I'm in NC, my whole family is in PA. I was recently in PA for quite a while, we spent a lot of time together. At times I am in PA and mother's day comes along, what we do and if we spend the day together depends on what plans they have with their partners and family. I'm not a fan of special occasion days and mother's day is just another day to me. We spend a lot of time together when I'm in PA and that's more important to me than having one day set aside to celebrate. We will be going to Master's parents house for a bbq this afternoon. He won't be spending Father's day with his adult kids either, they're both in CA.

My children do not get along so I am spending some time with my son and his family, my daughter and her family....then my MOM ....then the rest of the day is mine to spend how ever I wish. For me everyday is Mother day because I have two wonderful and amazing children and four wonderful grandmunchkins.

My kids adore each other, and my daughter is staying with my son until she makes her way to my house next week for the summer.

I have a lovely flower arrangement, and a dozen chocolate covered strawberries that arrived yesterday, and I just got off of Skype with both of them. I'm a happy, blessed momma.

A walk on the beach for me later this morning!
