I recieved this in my inbox today, I of course signed it right away. I can't imagine the pain & frustration this girl is going through.

http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/justice-for-bruiser.fb41?source=c.fb&r_by=10142989

Please, take the time to read, sign & share this petition. Now I can understand this person's blog, http://www.facebook.com/Bellehound.Scrawny.Tawny.Bruiser.JC (spoken through the eyes, of her deceased, working, partner).

I also, now understand, the acronim(s) she has come up with for the FDA (US Food & Drug Administration). Federal Death Administration & Feed Death to America, lol. You have to admit, after reading her petition, why she has come up with these two very fitting acronims...lol...

It really makes me question, how this, has been, allowed to happen, & that it's still allowed to happen. I can't even imagine how lost & frustrated she feels.

The love & devotion, these two shared is completely unconditional, & awe inspiring.

Thanks for reading, & sharing...together we can, maybe bring peace, & comfort to this woman, as well as protect others.

Thanks =)

I loved the sentiments and the story and wholeheartedly agree with it.
Your FDA allow an awful lot of stuff that we in Europe do not allow or have banned in other ways.

However, I didn't add my voice to the list because I do not agree to having even more spam in my inbox and even worse from an overseas website.
From the site: "Note: By signing, you agree to receive email messages from MoveOn.org Civic Action and MoveOn.org Political Action".
If it had just been a petition, I'd have gladly signed it.

You can just sign it, there is a box to check, so that you don't get messages sent. I checked it. The email, was sent from friends who have dogs & know this person, on a personal basis. I've since joined her FB blog (Where you can see puctures of not only her Service Dog, Bruiser, but also three other dogs, she lost due to these dog treats). In further reading (I read when I can't sleep), when two of the companies pulled their product in 2013; they didn't destroy their products, they shipped them to the UK & Europe. I wonder how many dogs got sick with the same symptoms...

Thank you for taking the time to read it. =)

What odd few companies that used to sell in the UK/Europe have recalled those Chinese products so we don't have them here.
It would certainly seem to be an almost exclusive US problem.

And, not to put a damper on it, she lost 3 other dogs to these dog treats before Bruiser??
Sorry, she's either extremely naive, gullible or stupid, I'm not sure which.
If this had been her first, yes, it would be horrific. But 3???
That's just lunacy on her part for using the same products after losing the first one.
That knocked the wind out of any support or sympathy that I initially had.
Repeated stupidity is something I don't support as sad as the sentiments are for her loss.

FWIW, I don't see any box to stop sending emails that I can select (IE8 and FF29) so I have no idea where you saw that.

Which brand in particular is the petition about? It just mentions China.

That means that the petition has some nationalist overtones.

There are several 'brands' that import these doggie treats.
The link starts by saying "Bruiser was diagnosed with a severely damaged liver & renal failure October 2010, after having consumed Chicken Jerky Treats" which are imported from China.

When I Googled these 'Chicken Jerky Treats' it seems that the few companies that sell stuff over here and across Europe had those products recalled 3-4 years ago and are no longer on sale over here.
The FDA and the AKC (American Kennel Club) apparently approve and endorse these products in the US.

They still don't know what killed and sickened the dogs.

I do think the FDA should be held accountable but not because this caused the death of someone's service dog; as important as service dogs are.

I do too!

But wouldn't that have to be a class-action suite??
I couldn't see an individual or small group getting anywhere against the FDA.

There are a lot of things that your FDA allow that we (and most of the EU) had outlawed a long time ago.
GM crops being allowed into the food chain is one.
Oddball (banned) chemicals used extensively for fertilizer is yet another one.
Excessive fat, sugar, salt and the dreaded MSG in abundant quantities in food and drink is a further example.

Your FDA has a lot to answer for in more ways than just these doggie treats.

Just sayin.

There are several class action suits, pending. There are illegal antibiotics that are found in these treats, not just Chicken, as dogs & cats have died from consuming, duck, turkey & sweet potato jerky treats. Common denominator is China. Over 600+ animals have died. The original packages never stated where the treats were made. So people thought they were buying treats made in USA. The FDA has had secret meetings with the CEO's of these corpirations, and the treats that were voluntarily recalled (company stated for choking hazzards, which was a lie), are now back on store shelves.

The Petition is to protect all Service Dogs in the future, similar to Police K9s, stiffer penalties for anyone who harms a specifically trained dog. The author also asks that the FDA mandate companies put warning lables similar to those that are on human products like alcohol & tobacco.

The companies that re-released their products, are sickening & killing new dogs. Again, the common denominator is China.

Do you know that the majority of your food, (USA) is now being processed in China? Tyson Chicken is one of the large ones.

It got me to thinking, maybe since no one cares about how many people have lost their dogs, whose to say, that the dogs weren't just test subjects. Wasn't China just in the news a few years ago, in trouble with the UN for pounting missles at the USA? What better way to off America, but through the food chain...may sound far fetched...but is it really?

The FDA has known about these treats killing dogs & cats since 2007, but warnings were never posted in stores, or anywhere, but their website. Which seems a bit skewed.

Service Dogs are not cheap, to train or buy, knowing your product has sickened & killed animals, and continuing to allow that to occur, is sick; and criminal. These companies, are no different than the asshat who ties a littler of puppies & kittens in a sack and tosses them over the bridge into a river to drown them.

The Chinese govt. Just poisoned a slew of their own children a few years ago, by putting melamine, in their infants formula, talk about genocide.

Back to this woman's dog, we know if these were children dying, the US would be up in arms...yes, I know humans & dogs are totally seperate, but the fact remains, if people were dying (and they didn't know why, or couldn't find the specific reason) but the common denominator was something imported from China, you can bet your ass, the companies would be in trouble, & the products would be off store shelves.

Did any of you know, that the head of the FDA was once a top CEO of MONSANTO? Something to think about, considering, where a product or it's ingredients come from, aren't always listed.

Might want to start reading your lables & asking questions, before someone thinks, you're expendable, just like this womans, Service Dog. I think she has seizures, from what I read, or the dog does/did some sort of life saving ability.

I believe all of her dogs were fed the treats at the same time. From reading her blog, when her first dog got sick, she took him to the vet, the other three dogs all showed signs, at the same time, and she had already, by then stopped using the products.

Some people do own multiple dogs, cats, horses, etc ... Not everyone owns just one dog at a time. She's not the only person who has lost a dog, or dogs. Some have lost cats.

Some animals died with in hours of consuming the products, others, like hers, years later, after they stopped feeding the product, by then the damage was already done.

So I don't think she was gullable, or niave.

I was just in the Supermarket yesterday, the packages said, healthy, low calorie, treat for your dog, made from real chicken breats. Some still didn't list where the product was made, the few that I saw, where the product was made, it was in the crease of the bag, un super small print.

I couldn't imagine the guilt she feels. I'm sure people have assumed & said similar stuff to her. Not realizing, she had fed all four of her dogs, these labled healthy treats, at the same time. Healthy right to the grave.

Look how many people still drink diet products, after knowing that Aspartamine has caused cancers, weight gain, and a slew of other health & neurological issues. Sinmply because they put their trust in companies & the FDA to protect them. Clearly artificial sweetners aren't poisonous, or they wouldn't be allowed to put it in your food & drink.

Gross conceptual error in that petition.

The FDA has nothing to do with animal feed such as those doggy treats mentioned.

The monitoring and regulation of animal feed comes under the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) if you live in the United States. The USDA has regulations pertaining to disease, purity, and methods of processing. But they have no responsibility for determining if a given food is suitable for a given animal.

Not true the FDA (go to their website) governs all human, drug & petfood. USDA governs human food.

As it pertains to slaughtering of animals for human consumption. If the FDA didn't govern it why was the recall listed on thrir website & not the USDA???
