Perhaps not surprisingly, I've gotten interested in "The Big C," a Showtime series in which Laura Linney plays a woman with melanoma. I'm watching the first season on Amazon Prime, and I can't decide what I think of it.

The characters are so hugely overdone that it borders on farce. And some of the plot lines go well past the border. Yet I can't quite write it off, mostly 'cause I'm starting to care for Linney's character.

Has anyone else watched this show? If so, I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Watched it start to finish over its 4 (I think there were 4) seasons. Agreed, it could get kind of schmaltzy and/or preachy at times and Linney's character wasn't always believable, but I thought it got better in terms of character development the deeper into the series I watched.
The last season (four 1-hour episodes) was the best of the lot.

If "the Big C" becomes too cumbersome to believe in, I would suggest another Showtime series from last fall, "Time of Death."
6 episodes, one hour each, of 8 real people preparing to die. But if you do watch it, have lots of tissues available, especially for the last episode.
