Status: offline 		I have always, loved watching people dance, whether couples doing a two step or group mixers.

For several years both in Waterloo and then driving to Cedar Rapids went to many dances and simply enjoyed the twirling, spinning, the flowing across the dance floor.

Why is it in today's society people aren't willing to go to a dance hall, to a ball room? What has happened and yes, young people, all they know for the most part is shaking about in solo dance, without the graceful exchange of motion, the flow, because, it is old folks dancing?

And, when dancing what better flow of physical exercise without getting all sweaty. I think I was born in a wrong era, a wrong time.

By, the way, the Grand March we all did on roller skates, was a dance done in the 1800
s and perhaps even further back in time. Here it is,

Status: offline 		Most people don't understand the sensual aspects of dancing, as Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong put it, dancing cheek to cheek.

It's far more sensual than twerking. Twerking is showing yourself off to whomever is watching. The Tango shows your partner exactly what it would be like to go home with you.

Status: offline 		I think a lot of young people would be really interested in learning pair dancing, whether it be waltz, tango, swing, etc. I myself am still under 30 and would love to learn. What's stopping me is mostly the cost, followed by having very few spaces outside of the downtown core that match up with my schedule.

Trust me - it's way more sensual than whatever the latest dance craze is. Considering that the male is supposed to lead, it's also got a BDSM flavour* to it.

*The extra 'U' was added because you're Canadian.

Status: offline 		Ah yes, but if I had a dollar for every romantic partner I've had who swore they would love to learn to dance with me or that they'd teach me and yet never did...well I'd be able to just pay for lessons and learn myself LOL

Status: offline 		I got started a little late in social partner dancing. I was 42 when I started. I took lessons off and on for about 10 years, and taught beginner lessons at a local singles club once a week for about a year, as well as helping several different female instructors when they would teach at various local nightclubs and at the YMCA.

Then my back went bad in '06 to the point I had to quit working (residential construction) as well as dancing. However, there is a chance I might be able to eventually get back into it. Next month (June 3) I'm scheduled to have back surgery, so I'm hoping to eventually hit the dance floor again. Might not be able to Cha Cha or Salsa, but would love to be able to at least get to Waltz, Rumba, and my favorite, the Nightclub Two-Step (NOT the same or even close Country Two-Step)

PhantomViolet...try to get into some group lessons. The cost is WAY less than individual instruction, and you don't usually need a partner to join up...so that makes it a good way to meet people as well. Or many places...especially country bars...will have free lessons before they start the music for the evening.

OP - yes, I dance, but have not yet partnered with someone who wants to dance as much as I would enjoy.

I love to dance( I'm not very good either lol)
But I love it. My father mesmerized women this wAy! He was very good, would take the lead and make even the clumsiest look a bit graceful.
My husband and I went through a country faze and took two step lessons and the boot scoot boogey. We got pretty good but it killed my back with turns since I am much taller then him. Good memories.

Status: offline 		Ah, dancing. .. that wonderful form of communicating by letting the body and its movements do the speaking to one's partner.

In my younger years I took professional (modern - for the technicality of footwork) flamenco classes for a number of years. I adored the emotional intensity, the expressiveness and passion, as well as the encouragement of improvisation. I have a general love for Latin dancing, the Argentine tango is superb and by far my favourite to watch.

Due to osteo arthritis, any notion of formal dancing is at an end and I revel in watching other people. The ability of music to evoke such powerful emotions in us and sway our moods is evident. Currently listening to the natural aural energy of the sounds around me. There's a rhythm in everything.

I was so glad that swing dance came back for a while in the late 90s.
I even tolerated the crappy music back in the disco era.

My step-father won the Harvest Moon Ball in 1948. My mother won it in 1958. They taught me some basic steps but, I can't dance a step to save my life.

Having said all of that, I regret my inability to dance.

Status: offline 		It's a shame there isn't a 'love this post' function as I'd have used it were it available.

In my line of work I encounter people that have conditions which are marked by mental health issues and physical limitations. Put on some music or I sing as I undertake my duties and they find a way to dance. There is no such thing as an inability to dance, just a preference not to. My clients humble me with their passion.
