I wrote this when I was 19. Its not very good, but I read it today and I thought it was kinda cute.
Men That Compare to You.
You told me of the men I’d knew
and how they can’t compare to you
You said you’d show me the light,
clip my wings, save me from flight
You’d cage this bird, then make her sing
And in my heart, that did ring
And so you quieted my way
did your bidding every day
While all the while you never knew
the men I would compare to you
keeping my desires at bay
so you’d never go away
You told me of the things you’d done
to convince me you were the one,
You told me of your honor and civility
How you held yourself with dignity
that is how you knew
to compare other men to you
And so you chased my song away
broke my will so I would stay
Dimmed my light so you could shine
called me yours, I called you mine
all this showed you knew
I was comparing other men to you.
Put myself in your hands
I put up with your demands
I gave you all of my attention
and for once, all my affection
all this because I knew
I shouldn’t compare other men to you
Through out it all you forgot me
And you found other girls to see
You got caught up in your own need
You traded your honor for your greed
And that is how I knew
no man could compare to you
No man would stoop so low
When you finally let me know
To blame it on my trying
to neglect me when I’m crying
When you said you knew
“that she can’t compare to you”
You begged me not to leave
You said that I would grieve
the day that I walked out
from your doorway you did shout
but from that point I knew
to compare all men to you
A comparison, which if met
I realized I’d regret
I’d not repeat the mistake
and a vow I did make
to never lose my point of view
when it came to men like you
