I'm something of a history nut. Specifically the mid 14th century until 15th century Europe. I have this image in my head of being a man at arms in service to a noblewoman. The idea appeals to me as it allows me to serve every command while maintaining and to some extent reinforcing my dignity, self discipline, and masculine traits.

My (two-person, for the moment) house follows two ways of thinking. The first is wolf pack. My beta may be submissive to me. That doesn't make him any less a wolf.
Queen and knight, or lady and knight, is another mindset that resonates strongly with us. He's strong, and capable, and bends his knee to only one woman, because he is inspired to serve her.

There... wasn't a question or invitation for discussion in your post, so I'll just say that you're not alone?

Lol I was typing it while walking the kids to the bus stop. I was wondering how common this was and was curious as to other people's dynamic. :-) the knight/Queen is an appealing dynamic.

Ah, I see. :) I tend to be more primal and pack oriented, so the wolf pack motif is the one I identify most strongly with, but we're also... maybe not history nuts, but very involved in Renaissance Fairs and SCA events (or at least one!), so a lot of what we do tends to resemble olde timey knights and the ladies they swear fealty to. It can be a very flowery, ritualized way of interacting at times, and that can make it a lot of fun.

I'm a student of historical European martial arts, though I'm not in a sca group I'm familiar with a few who are. It sounds like fun :-)

the knight/Queen is an appealing dynamic.

Crusader knight to Queen Regent is the prevailing theme in a "typical" FLR-Female Led Relationship.

Although I don't necessarily espouse conventional FLR doctrines and ideological school of thought, I also view the symbolic Queen/knight dynamic to be the closest one to my heart, rather than the usual F/m D/s consisting of Mistress/slave. I don't see this as historical role play, however. There are so many diverse periods in (ancient/medieval/Renaissance) history which appeal to me, that I wouldn't want to get stuck in any one epoch.

The tradition of Courtly Love is full of florid language that you might construe in a BDSM way, if you chose. Men's hearts were often enslaved though love to their Domnas. This was sometimes represented with chains at parties. While I have the impression that this was sometimes so figurative that nobody was actually getting laid, beat, or otherwise off, things, including sexual mores, have shifted quite a bit over time in ways that have been clouded by many of the writers of histories. I have not myself delved deeply into it; but that is where I would start.

Studiously avoid anything touched by a Victorian. They've got historiographic cooties.

Ah-ah, don't forget about Sir Richard Burton, one of the greatest explorers and scholars who ever lived. Translated the Kama Sutra, compiled 1001 Arabian Nights, discovered Victoria Lake, the source of the Nile River, and was reputed to be the first white man who infiltrated Mecca by successfully passing himself off as Muslim.

Not all Victorians were sexually repressed and frigid. Many were iconoclastic free thinkers.
