this sparked a rather interesting discussion on another board i belong to - i'm curious to hear what you all think of it.

that's the most succinct response i've seen yet. you have my applause.

this was my main argument against it. my mom had me when she was 35, and i still lost her before i turned 18. i could never have a child knowing that at the oldest it might be 25 or 30 when i die, and most likely will be lucky to graduate high school, let alone college, with me there, or in even mediocre health.

It's not just a matter of death though its all the small things.
Such as are they going to be able to run round after a toddler 24/7?
Whos going to play football with him?
Will the dependent ended up being depended on to care for his aged parents?
The generation gap - will they really understand their child.
Not to mention all the young couples out there who have no children that could have benefitted from the IVF.
What happens if the couple do die are there children they already had expected to bring up their latest child?

I agree with them all.

I believe there is a reason women stop having babies after a certain age.

I am no poster child fot an ideal age to have children given that my first was born days after my 16th birthday and my second 4 months after my 18th........BUT my initial reaction is WHY?!?!?" I am in pretty decent shape, and after having my grandsons for a weekend I am exhausted!
